Leather cleaner

I have owned 4 cars with leather seats and not one of them I used a leather cleaner/conditioner. Just wipe it with cloth and water

On the BMW I find the leather is not as smooth and I dont want to ruin it. What do you guys use to condition/clean?

I heard about Zaino Z9 and 10 but I was planning to get the one from BMW. Is that a gimmick or does it work?

I used Lexol products and was happy with the result!

Step 1: Lexol Spray Leather Cleaner
Step 2: Lexol Neatsfoot Leather Dressing
Step 3: Lexol Spray Leather Conditioner

Lexol works great!

After the dealer prepped my CPO car I took it home and the following weekend treated the leather with Lexol -- it looked 100% better and I had many comments on how good the leather looked for a 1 year old car.

I don't buy Lexol from a detailing supply shop as it is almost twice as much as if you would buy it at a Tack Shop, aka Saddlery, aka Equestrian Supply. It is used to treat leather saddles.

i also use lexol. and i use lexol vinylex on vinyl parts of the car.

as for the leather. i believe the upgraded leather in bmw's (dakota) is not treated with a vinyl spray which makes it feel more supple and look better (less shiny).

It doesn't make it shiny at all. The leather maintains it's natural finish

I agree. The leather in my TSX is very shiny and smooth, whereas the 330's is rough and not shiny.

+1 for Lexol. I've been using on my 328i and also on my previous cars and have been really happy with the results. Not sure where to get it locally though, I've always picked it up when I've been down in the U.S.

Like Delta said above, you can get Lexol at a Tack shop. If you live in Ottawa, Apple Saddlery on Innes has it. Even if you don't live in Ottawa, you can order online: http://www.applesaddlery.com/riding/...967/index.html

One more for Lexol. There is a really good auto-upholstery shop in Calgary, been around since the 1920s, they recommend Lexol. But I buy it at the local western/saddle shops....no shortage of those in Calgary. Parts guy at my stealership even recommends it, but he doesn't sell it.

Haven't tried Lexol Vinly, but I think I will.

Just remember the outer layer of your leather is porous plastic, so it is actually more similar to vinyl than un-coated leather. Generally speaking to keep leather looking and feeling new it is more important to clean it often than condition it often. To clean leather you can use a leather cleaner, or if you do it regularly just use warm water and a non-oil dissolving soap (car soap works, or a little laundry detergent with no bleach, don't use dish soap). You'll only need ~1/8th of an ounce in a regular 16oz bottle of warm water. Spray, use a soft microfiber to gently rub the leather clean, good times. Same applies to vinyl, plastic, etc...

I condition leather lightly once a year more for the smell than the results. The only time I really "condition" is older leather than is in poor shape, and that is less conditioning than it is deep cleaning with Leatherique.

Oh, I just saw someone mention that they thought Dakota was not coated. It is. To my knowledge outside special ordering every BMW use coated leather.

I used to use Lexol products but I kinda think they smell like @$$. Or maybe my bottles have gone bad/expired. =P I use Zaino stuff now. The smell is ADDICTIVE. You can pick it up at the Barber Shop.

I picked up some Z9/Z10 last week.

I was going to give me interior a work over, but it's currently snowing in Caledon right now....

Is it too cold for the cleaners to effectively dry at this temp? Should I wait for a nice warm weekend to do it instead?
