HPFP Recall
Just took my car in today for the elusive "reduced power" malfunction.
Service adviser said it was most likely the HPFP. He also said BMW would be issuing a recall this June to fix the issue. |

I'll believe it when I see it/hear it for myself.

I just dropped MY2010 off today... I have a feeling it's also the HPFP. (Engine Malfunction - reduced power)
It's been to the dealer 3 times already and Ive only owned it for 2 and a half weeks.

I am skeptical about the recall, BUT, if it happens, I will very glad. I am waiting on a bunch of mods to come in the mail...

I'm guessing if BMW does issue a recall, it's because they want to be "proactive" with this issue because of all that's happening in the news right now with Toyota and how they just paid over $16mil because of the fact that knew of the problem but was slow to report it to the authorities. BMW has tried to avoid doing a recall (as all car manufacturers do because of the cost) and that's why they extended the warranties on the hpfp a little while back on certain models years but if they really do issue a recall, that will be nice and a long time coming.
BMW may have been trying to justify not doing a recall in stating that it wasn't a saftey issue but more of a hassle for the customers to deal with. If they really do issue a recall, it would seem that BMW may be playing it safe so that they also don't get hit with a massive fine. fingers crossed hoping that it's true so that they finally have a real fix to the problem.

Funny, given the fact that they haven't actually manage to FIX it permanently on cars which already had it (some had repeated failures) I'm really sceptical. But a recall means there is a fix, there is a warranty and more importantly, means Ill actually consider 335i as second hand ownership prospect.

I hope this is true also....HPFP dying on me is a huge hassle...I have to request off of work and then bring it to the closest dealer which is an hour and a half away from me plus if the dealership doesn't give me a loaner then that's more hassle since I have to rent a car to get to work and then when they fix the car I have to request off of work again since the closest dealership to me doesn't even do service on saturday....big hassle if u asked me...

I think it pretty easy to find out if its bullsh1t or not.......just call BMWNA @ 800-831-1117 and ask. If they dont confirm, I would go back to the dealer with WTF ?

Take it with a grain of salt. A SA once told me the comfort access fob has two batteries, the coin cell, and a rechargeable one inside. No joke....

If this ever happens, they had better have gotten the turbo lag and shifting balances perfect, or they will have a MONSTER problem on their hands as every single 335 buyer suddenly has their cars' performance changed.

I dont know anything about HPFP issue (cause i just bought my 335i week ago), but if it is what some people say.....that the car can die 100% in the middle of a highway, then i would imagine this is a serious safety issue. 1 accident would probably be enough to make BMW think........its crazy whats going on with Toyota these days.

The number of 335 owners/members on this site represents only a fraction of the entire population of owners throughout the world. And, not every single 335 owner is a member of this site so you never hear from those people either. As a new/used owner of a 335, don't get too paranoid about it. It's covered by the warranty. If it was a serious safety issue, they would be doing what Toyota did in recalling every single vehicle they sold to fix the accelerator and apologizing in front of a hearing commission.
