Anyone here who has a motorcycle.....
and preferabley drive a 335i. Any of you guys ever consider adding a hitch to your bimmer and trailing a motorcycle? I'm doing track days this season and the nearest track is 4-5 hours away. Has anyone ever trailered anything with their bimmer? I'm not worried about having enough power as my car is jb3 powered.

Your problem will be finding the right hitch. In Europe, BMW sells a hitch kit for the E90, but you can't get it here. I used to see E36 street/track cars pulling tire trailers at the races frequently. Haven't seen a hitch on an E90 yet.
Probably would void the US warranty, as well. I don't think there is a US rating for towing. |

Yeah but I don't think I could put my bike on a small trailer and my 335i can't pull a big trailer. The 335i is not heavy enough.

P.S. -- there are a number of threads over at Bimmerforums under the E90 list discussing this subject. A couple people claim to have done it, and there are some pictures of the euro hitch as well, so you can see what's involved.

I have a ninja 600 and a 135i. I dont think I trust the 1er to pull it safely. I would rather ride it or use the tundra

I have two motorbikes, but have never had a towing hitch on a BMW. I transported the bikes with tow hitches on cars of similar size of my BMWs, so I am sure there would be no problems with an E90 or E92 not being able to tow a sports bike - as usual, problem may be with warranty.

I just installed a Curt hitch on my 335xi - posted some comments and pictures about it on BimmerForums here: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1443460

^^ thanks for the info on tow hitch and bumping this thread.
There are people who tow their motorcycles using their old gen Miata (something like 120 hp or so.) Towing a bike with a 1 or 3 series (whatever engine) should be a piece of cake. While traveling in Spain, I came across this station wagon VW passat (or jetta?) that had a huge trailer with FOUR sportbikes on it, and all 4 riders where sharing the ride inside the car, with the wagon area full of gear. I showed that to my wife and told her that in U.S., each of these guys would be towing his own bike using a 6.0L V8 FULL SIZE truck of some sort! ) |

I haven't even thought about it with my r6, I just figued I would ride it to PIR which about 18 miles if I decided to do track days. I'm sure it can be done.

^^ If it is only 18 miles from your home, then sure, just ride the bike. But normally, if the track is a couple of hours or farther away, it is not a good idea to ride the bike to/from the track at all. Things can happen while on the track, and you don't want to be stranded with a broken bike 2 hours away from home. Also, it helps to get started fresh at the track in the morning (not tired) and not have to ride back 2 hours after a tiring day at the track.

I have a 335xi and R1100RS.
I'd rather ride the bike there and put the car on the track, but can't work it out... Would love the tow capability for other reasons (small furniture, yard stuff etc). |
