Oil Level?

Hi,

While waiting for the Mrs tonight, I went into the iDrive menu and saw that the oil level is only a small amount over the minimum level

Car is 5 months old and has 3100miles.

Is this normal? Guess I will wait for the light to come on and top up, what oil is the best for my 335i?

Thanks
James

James,

Rather than top up with original spec Castrol Edge 0-30, why not do the decent thing and do a full oil and filter change instead?

Shes probably nicely bedded in now and would benefit long term from a fresh batch of oil, you will be surprised how mucky it is already!

Your oil consumption is within factory tolerance but needs keeping an eye on, just in case.

Many of us are running the full monty Silkolene Pro S 5-40 as recommended by Tony. Lovely oil, watch out for deals from Opie Oils, you will need 6.5 litres for the change. Oil filters are about a tenner.

DIY job for well less than £100.

Cheers

Yves

Out of interest, I have a proper dipstick (!) in mine, no more iDrive monitoring.......is this an Alpina novelty, or an LCI change??

Different models still have dipsticks.

My 330i and 335i had/have no dipstick.

Some 320d and 325i seem to have them (plus others i'm sure)

Yours is the 1 series 2.0d bi turbo motor isn't it? Another variation!

Usual straightforward explanation then!!! None of my 320d's have had them.....nor the 320i....can't remember specifically whether the 330i did or not.....and as you say, the D3 has the 123d biturbo engine....

all good fun!!

If you look here at a 2006 E90 320d engine, it clearly has a dipstick! This one is on the 318 and 320d and 118d and 120d.

320i also.....

Maybe they changed at different dates??
