JBDiesel Dyno Results

BMS was able to dyno a 335D testing out the new JBD quick install tune. No easy way to get a tach pickup on the car so we get MPH/Power only but the gains were very impressive. Stock it did a best of 245rw and tuned a best of 308rw. Also some runs at lower settings for comparison.

This is going to be a hot product for BMW diesel fans. Price will be $279 and testing should be wrapped up in another 3-4 weeks.

Tough to achieve on a dyno. Most use inductive pickups on the ignition to get a tach signal. No ignition on a diesel

A nice improvement. But I suspect, still not much of a match for a tuned 335i.

Very nice indeed especially if this is all stock with just JBD!

Some things I'd like to point out:

1. Unlike petrol engines, the more you modify diesels, the more efficient they become!
2. Perhaps the single most important upgrade for the diesels will be an aftermarket intercooler. Since diesel continues to be injected even during the downward stroke after ignition occurs, having colder, thicker, more oxygen rich air into the engine will drastically increase performance and fuel efficiency.

...and a question:
does anyone know if the 335D has an EGR valve? If so, where does the exhaust gas get re-introduced into the intake? Before or after the intercooler?

The 335d uses what BMW refers to as a high pressure EGR system, meaning the exhaust gases are injected in to the inlet at the high pressure point of the intake (throttle body just before the intake manifold)

Thank you. Does that mean that the intake manifold is made out of metal instead of plastic as it is in the 335i?

The reason why I started talking about the EGR system is because it is very critical for the performance of the diesel engine to have clean intake tract. The diesel soot has the tendency to coat any surfaces it passes through therefore clogging pipes, manifolds, etc etc. ... you get the picture.

I will not be surprised if semi-annual cleaning of the intake manifold will be a good thing to do on the 335D.

With an approximate 25% gain in HP, similar numbers, in theory, could be applied to the torque value. I'm trying to find a dyno locally that's able to do this. I may have, but I won't know until I check it out. If anyone is aware of a dyno in the southern California area that can pull the torque #'s, let me know, and I'll make the trip.

That's subjective, as it depends on how the i is tuned. The 0-60 and quarter mile #'s, so far, are nothing to sneeze at (tuned, that is). I've only done a timed run once, and I know I can do better than what you see below. I'm fairly confident that sub 5s 0-60, a much better 60', and a better quarter can be achieved. The run below was done on PS2 ZP RFTs with about 12k miles on them.
