Did you recently change from Snow tires to your summer tires? My 2007 is able to measure the tire pressure. If your snow tires had a different level of pressure than your summer tires then all you need to do is reset it. Even if you changed the pressure on the set of existing tires you will need to reset the Tire Pressure system on the car, it's easy just look it up in the manual.

Not that it helps with a 2007 since I have a 2008 335xi coupe but ...
I was told I had TPMS when I picked up the car at the dealer so I would have to keep that in mind when I purchased winter tires for itand that I would have to reset the system whenever I traded over from summer to winter or back. So I added sensors when I purchased my winter tire/wheel package from Tirerack. This year when I removed my winters I went to a 19" wheel and planned to move the sensors from my original factory tires to the new tires. Imagine my surprise when the tire shop called to say there were no sensors in the factory tires. They put the new tires on without sensors. One of the valves was bad and leaking air but I didn't realize. Later that day when driving the tire pressure warning light came on. I stopped, saw the low tire and added air so I could get back to the shop. So it seems that in Canada in 2008 the 335xi (with zsp) did not have TPMS but rather FTM and it works.

My 2009 Lci 323i is also FTM.
And I specifically asked the dealer if it had TPMS, which he said it did. Oh well, I guess the well educated enthusiast knows more after all. |

The ftm measures changes in the diameter of the wheel by it's rotation from a sensor in the brake. Canadian 2007s had ftms. you'll have to reset it when you change wheels or tire pressure.

This is nice because you don't need to buy TPMS when replacing wheels and you can easily run Non Run flat tires (just make sure you have a tire repair kit with you). |

Did you correctly re-set it ? You actually have to hold the button for at least 5 seconds in Tire Pressure set mode.... until the check mark appears appears in the box.

I was checking some winter tires at Tire Rack and they suggested to get the TPMS since our car apparently comes with it. It cost $212 for 4 sensors and valve caps! |

If the valve stems are metallic, then it's TPMS, otherwise it's FTM (so there is no sensor in the wheel, instead the ABS sensor is used to measure the rotational speed and determine if you have a flat or not).
The FTM system needs to be initialized as per the manual. My 2007 E92 did not have TPMS, my 2010 E90 doesn't have them either. I was told at the dealership that the Canadian models do not have TPMS and my history confirms it. |
