Modified CDV Comparison?

Guys,
Has anyone ever compared the different modified CDVs offered out there?

Is it just a matter of buying an OEM CDV and pulling the restrictor or are some vendors also porting the inside? I want to do the CDV delete mod but I would like to get the best modified CDV for optimal flow. I would also like to avoid cheaply drilled unit that might crack.

I searched but I couldn't find anything, I understand this is not the hottest topic but any insight is greatly appreciated!

Ciao,

-Walter

I got mine from Zeckhausen Racing

Here is why I didn't mod mine myself:

We do not drill these CDVs, as some have suggested. Drilling enlarges the openings on the tapered seats at each end, causing leaks. Drilling may also result in loose bits of metal destroying the seals in your clutch slave cylinder. We have developed a technique for removing the guts of the valve without damaging the tapered seats that allow these valves to seal properly. To avoid the risk of a hydraulic leak and subsequent clutch failure caused by modifying your own CDV, you can have one modified by Zeckhausen Racing.

If you are looking for the best flow, simply remove it from the system. Everything plugs in the same exact way minus the cdv in place.

the 'technique' is a 5mm round bar or hex key, and a firm push or toy hammer will do the job. The body is made of plastic and has quick release fittings. It is not a 1000+psi high tech device.
And there's a good reason not to make it any larger then it is (and larger then the rest of the piping) as that would create an area from which you would never ever bleed the air

Cool, thanks for the info guys. I knew I could remove it and plug the line back in without it, but I wanted to retain the factory look like most people.

Thank you,

-Walter

I recommend buying a premodded one like that from BMS rather than modifying it yourself....or just remove it completely as mentioned above.

There's no drilling needed, simply remove, put it vertically on the bench with the loose washer side down (you'll see the restriction is just a washer inside). Put a punch or Phillips screwdriver in and a couple taps with the hammer and it just pops out. No drilling required and doesn't destroy any of the couplings or seals.

I installed the BMS CDV, and have noticed a big difference from stock. It was a huge pain in the ass to install on an XI (drive shaft in the way), but I am very pleased with the results!

I just got the M3 "CDV" from Tischer, which doesn't have the restrictor. Part number 21522283914. It was about $14 shipped.

You could also get the pre-modified ones or knock out the restrictor yourself.

We sell them for 20.00 so I usually recommend just buying a modified one but if you want to save 5 bux or so you can mod one yourself. Not sure how much they go for at a local dealer, but Tischer is a good bet to order a stock one.
