If local, and you want to make use of the buttons on your steering wheel, you only have a handful of choices:
1. Buy and install/program at the local dealer, it will probably be anywhere between $1000 to $1500 2. Buy from an online source the modules and install/program at a local dealer. 3. Buy the kit from European Auto Source (EAS) called "mObridge - Bluetooth Handsfree interface", and try to get it installed and programmed at a BMW specialist that has the BMW diagnostic tool. 1 and 2 could possibily be done with the BMW specialists, but then I don't know if the price will be cheaper. I'm looking at the retrofit myself, but not sure if I want to buy it at the dealer or source it online.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but my 335i lease is ending and I just pulled my aftermarket BMW TCU from the trunk. Purchased it back in 2007 from the US based on info posted in the Bluetooth forums. Goes in the trunk under the cover. Looking to get rid of it so if there is any interest, let me know.
You need to make sure you do your homework with respect to current state of car preparation. The TCU (Telematics control unit if I recall correctly) includes not just Bluetooth but also a cellular transceiver for the assist/phone home features. The two can be enabled separately. Installation requires three coaxial cables, a fiber optic connector and large beige wired connector. All should be nicely wrapped up in a black velcro cloth in your trunk (same area where a spare tire should be). Here is a link for the module and instructions: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85149 and updated instructions http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/attachments/B841405_E9x.pdf |

Hi, this is my first post. I just bought a 2009 328i and was fooled by the steering wheel. By seeing the phone button, I thought this car for sure is equipped with the bluetooth. It does have the USB connection for my iphone in the center console.
So what are my option? Any way to connect the USB in the center console to the car speakers and mic? Is bluetooth the way to go? Aftermarket or from Dealer? Thanks for your help. |

I bought a used BT module locally from another member, dealer installed and ordered the bracket and it worked. I got the BMW Assist error constantly there, so I ended up ordering a new overhead console with BMW Assist as well.
