What makes of decent aftermarket performance discs have people used to good effect?

For occasional track use, with decent pads / hoses / fluid too of course (got those already )

There are so many to choose from, there must be some decent ones amongst them?

Sure i read a Tony post a while back when said the OEM disks are pretty good and you should focus on upgrading the rest

Sounds like the next logical step for you is a BBK system.

I was wanting to avoid the 2 grand+ price tag of the AP bbk and also keep the car looking OE, with the exception of possibly drilled or grooved discs if necessary.

The OE discs are fine, but they'll need changing soon and 1 piece iron discs aren't that expensive compared to floating items. TBH they've done 20K and 3 track days, so I'd rather put new discs on when it goes in to have the pads / fluid / lines fitted. Saves labour and better to put new pads on with new discs too.

Ideally yes, but no one makes one for the unique (and thus low volume) 335i/d fitment AFAIK.

Performance friction don't even do pads for the 335i - tried them already.

It's hard enough getting decent road/track pads to fit the 335i/d caliper - it took me ages to find some and even then they were on massive back order and, let alone pukka discs upgrades.

Very few manufacturers even make one piece upgrade discs for the 335i, and if they do its a limited range and the cost is higher.

Unless some one knows different?????

What about ebc and red stuff pads they seem to get good reviews.

I've got ferodo DS2500 pads to go in all round - much better than EBC.

But disc wise the choice is limited. I've spoken to my brother who's a touring car mechanic, and the problem with anything drilled is the noise they make when braking.

Same with slots too. But slots are good for gas expulsion and pad deglazing, 6 or 8 slots would do and help keep the noise down, but the only non drilled discs with slots are tar ox G88 discs which have about 40 slots and sound like an aeroplane taking off when you brake.

Not much help I'm afraid, I had a look at ATE website to see if they do their power discs.

They do OE but not the power disc for the 335, they do make them for the 330/325 though.

I had these on my Golf with mintex pads and they were very good. In contrast the EBC greenstuf were rubbish.

These look reasonable, benefits of grooves for gas expulsion etc but with quiet running.

Also black powder coating to keep the bell rust free for 2 to 5 years.

They're available for front and rear 335i fitment....

Compbrake will make anything you want.
They will take a pattern from an old disc if you can locate one.
They did a run of front and rear S2000 2pc discs for my club and now they are listed as normal stock too

If they have the right rotor size blanks in stock, the bells are easy to spin up.
Cost initially about £700 a pair, new rotors run to about £300pr after that so cheaper than oem.
I see they list a 350mm x 32mm so that would do, they will turn it to 348 but then you might need to mill the pads back 1mm a side - a pita.
Theres a gain from weight loss too, so less rotational weight and unsprung mass too, likely a lighter and sharper steering effect.

I would be wary of assuming slots or holes are an upgrade. They are not.
Holes promote cracking, and the slotted rotors on the R26R, well just about every car cracked along the slots that i knew of.
I used the Brembo solid blanks on a few track days and had no more issues - half the price too!

I'm currently using EBC Turbo Groove discs (slotted & dimpled), along with Cool Carbon brake pads. I'm very happy with that combination and it held up very well on my two last Nürburgring trips.

Cheers steve, I get what you're saying about holes and they have a bad rep for cracking. lots use 'dimples' now, but they seem a bit pointless IMO. Brembo don't make OE replacement discs for the 335i AFAIK.

OEM BMW 335i front discs are only £130 a pair, so way less than £300 you mention. BUt with £700 for special rotors plus pads etc, I'd be better off going for the AP kit with pukka calipers too, so thats too much for what I need.

I already emailed compbrake the other day, but I've heard nothing back as yet.

Already spoken to them! They don't do any pads for the 335i or any discs. They mentioned a minimum run of 25 units would be required for any special.
