Autospies Vote for best car, 335 vs. IS vs. G
335i, G35, or IS350...
Take your pick in the poll and if you dare read the flamefest that is the comments. Site is really slow loading. http://www.autospies.com/news/It-s-t...iti-G35-10553/ |

Yeah that poll is a blatant flamebait. But fun to read!
The one thing that is undebatable here is that the competition is getting better. What's funny, and what the Japanese fanboys seem to overlook everytime is that these companies openly admit to benchmarking their cars against BMW. Clearly they are trying to emulate the 3 series. The thing is if you go drive them all, you can tell immediately that they aren't quite there yet. It doesn't take much pushing on the cars to expose the qualities that make the BMW the one to beat. The fact that the Japanese haven't gotten it right just yet doesn't make them bad cars, but it does mean that they still have work to do. And when the next generation IS and G come out performing even closer to the BMW in performance than the current ones, we will see that - low and behold - there really was room for improvement. |

I like AutoSpies.com to see new spy pics and stuff, but I don't like when they've got nothing new, they just put up something like this just to get all the comments going...total flame wars, and it's very annoying to read.
IMHO, coming from a loaded '04 G35 Sedan (and I seriously considered and test drove the new, redesigned '07 G35 Sedan) and a loaded '03 FX35, 'you get what you pay for' with the BMW 335i. However, the new G35 still is probably the 'best bang for your buck' in this car segment. Also, imho, the Lexus IS350 just isn't up to par with the BMW or Infiniti, and it's way too cramped inside; not flaming Lexus as they're wonderful cars (I've had 3 of them in the past). Typically, luxury and quality are Lexus highest priorities while sport and performance are a bit lower on the priority list; yet, the "sporty" IS350's interior has a bit cheaper look and feel than in the RX350, ES350, GS350/430, SC, and of course the LS. Anyway, the BMW 335i beats them both in my book, even for the extra $$. Also, as a footnote -- in regards to Lexus, I guess we'll just have to see how the new '08 or '09 Lexus IS500 performs when it arrives, although it's supposed to be very expensive...pricing and performance similar to the new '08 BMW M3, Audi RS4, MB AMG, and Nissan Skyline GTR.

Amusing read what I read of it.
Honestly, anyone who lauds any Lexus for exterior styling or performance is of suspect taste. There is no soul there. I cannot speak to reliability except that reliability surveys are unreliable. I would take an Infiniti before a Lexus.

I haven't driven or seen an 07 G35 yet, but it seems much better than the old model. I was disappointed though that they only bumped it to 306 hp. I wish they had out done the IS350 power wise.
One of these 3 will probably be my next car though. Having driven both the 335 and IS350 I really go back and forth. The BMW definitely handles and performs better and has the option of a manual. Also a more useable back seat. The Lexus does better with comfort and luxury stuff, like having their comfort access standard and not a $500 option, back up camera, more cushy seats and softer leather as opposed to firmer and more sporty seats in the 3. Obviously people are going to be biased on there if any of them own the cars in question. People who own a 3 or IS is probably going to have blinders on about any of the shortcomings of their vehicle. Face it, neither car is perfect it just depends on what you want, some more comfort and lux with the IS or better performance with the 3, or G35 if....I don't know. I too am very curious to see what they do with the new ISF. Can they make it handle more like a 3 or is it going to be just like the IS350? No matter which way they pick it will sell very well. There alre lots of people that want speed and comfort and as long as it handles well (even if the IS doesn't handle like a BMW, you guys do have to admit is is a lot better than most cars out there *cough* domestics and FWD *cough*) They might as well target the C63 instead of the M3 because of the likely lack of a manual and the fact it will probably handle more like a Merc than BMW. And NaVit, I am also on a Lexus forum but I just try to be as unbiased as possible because I like both cars and own neither of them... |

"20. What is the risk in using mods that will be detrimental to the reliability of the car?
Answer : Shiv@Vishnu" That basically means "No comment" ....what an idiot, the "Shiv@vishnu" is actually a link to his post answering that specific question....shit makes me soo mad.

IS350 has no manual trans, right? So it's not competitive at all.

The joy of polls like these, aside from the flaming owners, is that people who *don't* own the car can vote for the one they would *like* to own. Personally, I think given the choice most people would choose the Bimmer.
Even over the G35driver, despite the obvious popularity of the new G, owners will admit priced similarly the 335i makes a strong case for itself. The advantage the G has is price, always has and probably always will since it will be a long time before Infiniti can price with BMW. As for Lexus, the IS350 is a fine car but it doesn't belong in this comparison, imo. The suspension just isn't there. Man, reading the comments makes me want to take the BMW badges off my car. So much roundel hate. I guess I'm just a brand snob. |

About the brand snob, you and probably most 3 Series/IS owners. If you want to see some flaming that makes no sense go check out Club Lexus. Its good to laugh at. And no, the IS350 doesn't come with a manual tranny. The anemic IS250 does for whatever sense that makes. |
