i had heard its induction loop (charges whilst its in the car and being used) - so you have to swap keys every now and again to ensure both have charge.

If you have comfort access you can't charge it you have to replace the battery. If you don't have comfort access just stick the fob into the key slot.

If it won't start the car, use your other fob to start the car. Remove the working key fob and re-start the car (the car should start even though there is no fob inserted) then put the dead fob in the slot and keep the engine running. If the re-chargeable battery isn't totally wrecked, it should start to get a charge.

my spare key hasnt been used in years but it still works so if yours is still dead after charging then you may want to get another one (should be under warranty iirc)
