Cruise control issue with JB3

Whenever I'm using cruise control and accelerate with the second position on the stalk, my car goes into limp mode. Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm on the latest firmware.

Happened to me once. No loss of power, just a message.

I just got my JB3 installed. What exactly is this problem? If you use the cruise control, it'll throw a CEL? And does this only happen when you try to increase/decrease the speed using the up/down feature? Will the CEL go away after turning the car off then on?

From the known bugs section on 2.0:

Known bugs:
1) When using WOT X-axis view fuel pressure and map don't chart properly.
2) When using cruise control acceleration, if you double click to accelerate more than 1mph at a time you may recreate a misfire. Apparently this bug has been around since 1.4 but has only been reported by 3-4 users. We'll look in to it soon.

None of my customers have ever had an issue with it but a few must have reported it to BMS for it to become a known bug item. According to the notes it comes up when you accelerate 5-10mph using the stalk. Misfire would be an SES light.

Ah ok. So, it only happens when you speed up by 5-10 mph (for some cars).

I'd like to try this, but if the SES comes on because of this, do I need to have the BT scanner to clear the code or go to the dealer?

No the misfire/SES isn't a tuner code so no BT scan needed. The dealer may give you new plugs if you go in with it though. If you get one you will restart the car and then the SES light will normally stay on for a few drive cycles and go off on its own.

I have never had this problem on any of my 335i BMWs. But I only click 1mph increments on the stalk. I will try the 5mph increments. What speeds does this occur at? Normal 65mph highway speeds? Speeding up only, or slowing down also?

I noticed the known error expressed on the Sticky but I forgot and tapped it anyway. No big deal just went to a more agressive pull then it hit reduced power/ tripped light.

Cut the car off and fired her back up and the light and reduced power was gone no biggie!!

Won't forget again!!

Pull or press the stalk a little further and you'll notice a little step. If you pull reallynhard on the stalk, the E90 can brake very hard relying only on your finger!

I don't go into limp mode but I do have a cruise control issue.

Instead of limp mode I get a cruise control error and cruise will not work again until i restart the car....

Interesting.
I cannot create the 5mph error, BUT when I tap the resume button and Im not near the target speed, it misfires so badly so I have to take it off.
If its just a few mph under it picks up and holds cruise just fine.
This is at normal running and about 2k rpm so its not labouring at tickover speeds or anything like that.

Anyone else?

A little good news guys, BMS solved cruise control bug where you might get a misfire if you used the cruise control stick double click to accelerate 5mph or more. The fix is in the 6/15 alpha firmware and is posted on their site.

Cruise Control

I've had the same problem with my new JB3. I was on the freeway and put on my cruise control. I threw an engine malfunction light and my service engine soon light came on. My cruise control doesn't even work anymore. After restarting my car, the engine malfunction light went away, but the service engine soon light is still there.

There is nothing in the JB3 that can stop the cruise control from working but it can certainly give a higher than desired boost target when using the cruise control to accelerate, casing a misfire SES light. That was corrected in the 6/15 firmware. I'd suggest updating it.

Cruise Control

If I just got my JB3 a week ago, do I still need to update it?
