What the dealership sees in regards to the tunes that ppl use

These are all answers to questions I asked and I figured I would post them so that people can have a better idea at what the dealership sees on their end.

FACT My friend is a BMW mechanic at a dealership. He says that you can clear codes with the BT tool and when you bring it into the dealership they can't see it...at all.

FACT Even though you have cleared codes depending on the situation or problem, there will be evidence that a tune has been used...ie hack job done on the DME and many other Non-DME related signs.

FACT you can go years without ever being caught. If you push your car to the max and parts start to break, you will increase the likelihood of getting caught

FACT Once the tech hooks the computer up to your car, all information is sent off to BMW and there is nothing you can do to erase that.

Overboost codes set off the check engine light for a brief amount of time, about 3 seconds. A regular 335 will set off overboost codes but very rarely. If your car is supposedly stock and you are constantly going over 8-9psi, you will have a lot of overboost codes. An irregular amount of over-boost codes is one indication that a tune is in the car.

How about if I push my parts to sub-Max, do I still increase my likelihood of getting caught? How about ludicrous Max?

How's things in Jersey Shore world?

I posted this thread to provide people with inside, unbiased information. I am not looking to discourage people. I want people to know whats up without needing to figure out things for themselves.

I was curious and asked him a shitload of questions about tunes. I figured I would post his answers because people keep asking the same questions that I had.

As a tech he also thinks that no BMW tech would purposely rat out a customer if they had the tune. He says over and over that if he was in a customers spot, he would do the same thing, so why rat them out.

Jersey shore is great as usual and ludicrous Max is very dangerous.

I could understand your trying to help but your just stating the obvious and the people that ask the questions your referring to usually get a bunch of these or these . The most helpful tuning related tip i got from my SA is to wipe your finger prints off the fender when you take it out and clean your fingerprints off the cowl and A/C filter.

I think if you were trying to help and provide good "inside" info, then maybe you shouldn't have titled the thread "You can clear codes but you will still get caught".

I mean, you contradict yourself via 1st and 3rd "FACT":
1. you can clear codes with the BT tool and when you bring it into the dealership they can't see it...at all.

2. you can go years without ever being caught. If you push your car to the max and parts start to break, you will increase the likelihood of getting caught....

HRMMMM that doesn't sound anything like what the title implies.

Here is a FACT: Your friend is a BMW mechanic
Here is your friend's OPINION: "As a tech he also thinks that no BMW tech would purposely rat out a customer if they had the tune. He says over and over that if he was in a customers spot, he would do the same thing, so why rat them out."

So to sum it all up, you're telling other uninformed people:

Hi, you can clear all your codes and BMW won't know they existed however, they can still find out by snooping around your engine bay - especially if you push your car to SUPER MAX, which by the way will increase the likelihood of you having to bring the car in for warranty which would expose you to investigation into your tune. Having said all that, my friend (who you all don't know) is a BMW tech and he's super cool and he would never rat out a customer THE END YAY!

Oh on a side note, BMW techs and service advisors have the ability to choose whether or not to scan your key and upload the data onto the BMW server however, if you have a problem with the car that is engine related they HAVE to scan your key therefore relinquishing any control over whether or not BMW opens a PUMA case for your situation. At that point it is out of their control, and their personal input is rendered insignificant.

My dealer is so jacked he catches people out just by looking in their eyes. On glance and warranty is gone.

I am not sure these facts are true because there seem to be many people who have cleared codes and have not been caught.
In fact I don't know of anyone who has been caught after clearing codes.
