[Fatty Duckets]

Good evening everyone,

I finally have taken the 30 seconds to register for the forum, as I have been lurking and educating myself for roughly 6 months. Now, onto my "dilemma..."

My job entails me being on the road all day doing sales, and I am constantly getting in and out of my car. One key point is that I also have a manual transmission. With all that being said, I was curious to see if any other members tend to destroy their dress shoes quicker than normal. Specifically, I see the my left shoe's heel unevenly begins to wear out quickly, eventually forcing the heel to come completely detached. I am onto my third pair of shoes, purchasing from garbage $30 black shoes to $150 Bostonian (which did last a little longer before I had to replace the heel). My Bostonian pair lasted about 3 months after they needed a face lift.

Anyone here notice/come up with the same issue in their daily job?

I always keep a spare pair of tennis shoes for driving and leave the dress shoes in the trunk and just quickly swap them out after i get out of the car

I always take off my dress shoes when I drive MT cars. Not because it wears out my shoes. But because I feel less control with the clutch with dress shoes on. I simply drive bare feet.

I drive bear foot most the time as well.

My advise is either

1. rubbers, can also leave them on for when the weather is shitty to protect from water/salt etc..
2. Like others said. Extra pair of shoes although you'll look kind of goofy filling up your gas tank in a (presumably) nice suit, set of pants, etc. and some brilliant white sneaks but it will work

I can't stand driving MT in dress shoes. My favorite pair of shoes to drive in are my DC's. The flat bottoms are great for having that perfect feel of the clutch and being able to heel-toe.

I don't. I generally wear loafer type's so I never minded.

I actually keep some uggs and a pair of sweat pants in the trunk for whenever I drive. I don't want to scratch the leather either with my jeans. I also keep a microfiber towel on the passenger side seat to wipe off any oils from my hands off the steering wheel.

I don't wear dress shoes every day, but I do wear them on a regular basis. I've been driving manual cars for 5 years now and I don't expect the reaction that you are describing. I have a couple pairs of semi pricey dress shoes (around $350 a pop) and aside from the minor scratches on the surface, they're holding up pretty well.

Cole Hann makes a great pair of loafer type driving shoes. You can tell because the heal is rolled and is actually make for driving. The only time i really didn't like wearing dress shoes while driving a manual was when I wore shoes with a Tux. Otherwise, always looked to buy specific shoes that matched my style and were a "driving shoe".

I just take them off everytime I drive. But I just started to leave my sneakers in the back seat these days.

I wear dress shoes most days and haven't experienced any premature wear from driving 6MT. If you really wear dress shoes that much, you should generally have 3 or 4 pairs in rotation at all times. This will allow you to let the shoes dry, etc. between each wear and will allow each pair to last longer. The worst thing you can do for your dress shoes is to wear them every day.

Also - why is your left heel wearing out? Are you pivoting your left foot for the clutch instead of lifting? If that's the case, then your heels are wearing out because you're not driving properly.

I hate driving in dress shoes. I have some nice cole haans and they're already uncomfortable to walk long distances in, much less drive in.

But I'm a hillbilly from Missouri, so I drive barefoot as much as possible!

^ Cole Hanns and Kenneth Coles aren't comfortable in my experience.

Eccos are the way to go, try some on.
