2GB is actually a lot of data. It seems like a good move IMO. I know a lot of people that only use it on WiFi most of the time anyway, it is a good way to save some money.
You are able to keep your unlimited plan if you already had it so no losses either way, new customers are the only ones that could possibly not like it.

That does suck... but the infastructure as it stands is way overused... hopefully this will help with calls dropping, etc.
Probobly not. *shrug* I don't stream video, etc... but I work off of my phone. I just checked and I'm at 1.8gb this billing period. 2gb might not be enough...hmm. |

How about the new 4g coming out? Do you think it will require new data plan or we could stick with our old data plan?

I think I'll be OK. Over the lifetime of my phone (Got it Dec. 2008) I've only sent 250mb of data and received 5.7GB of data.

i don't think it's bad at all...according to AT&T..98% of it's users use less than 2GB of data a month...so for me it's a win because i'll be dropping my monthly bill...

Not sure why AT&T would completely scrap their unlimited data plan altogether. Heavy iPhone/iPad users who use more than 2 GB a month are going to be pissed

I'm under 2gb anyway...most of my serious data use is on Wifi. And isn't it just $10 per gb over 2? Doesn't sound so bad to me if it will indeed improve other aspects of the network

Tough call. I'm on the "unlimited" plan now for $30, but I just looked at my usage, and I've sent 173MB and downloaded 1.6GB since I got the phone back in July. At home I'm on WiFi, as well as airports or any of the AT&T WiFi hotspots. But a paltry $5 discount to be limited to 2GB vs. unlimited? I don't see a lot of really heavy current users making that change....
So if I look at my usage, I could drop down to the $15/month plan for 200MB, as could my wife probably. That would save us $30/month. But, not ever being able to go back to an unlimited plan? Hmmmm.... Also, Verizon has a limit on their "unlimited" plan. My Aircard with Verizon will start incurring big charges if I exceed 5GB a month. I don't know if they place the same limits on smartphone data usage. Sprint has the same monthly 5GB limit, although I don't know how actively they enforce it. The phones most affected by this are not iPhones.
Using a ported Android OS in my phone along with a tethering app, it categorizes the data under the unlimited plan instead of having to pay the stupid tethering plan fees. I'd imagine this sort of thing would be what they're after the most. |

A) The unlimited plan has a cap of 5 GB.
B) For those who already have it at least iPhone wise, can keep their unlimited plan and upgrade to the new iPhone. Though you will not get tethering. |

And some of our files are 200MB+, so that would be a $10 download if it was over the limit. Now, if we had 100 out of 500 people with Aircards over their limit downloading that file, the company would have to pay $1,000. Seems pretty steep to me....

I'm actually interested in the $15 data plan. I only use about 100 MB per month. 90% of the time I am under wifi.
If I want to downgrade to the $15 data plan will I have to start my contract over again? |

Since I bought my iPhone in Sept of '07, I have used 2.2 GB of DATA. This won't effect me at all. In fact, it's a good thing as I can now save $5 per month.

I don't think so coz it's a feature not the whole voice plan.
