My New VW

Had the Scirocco R for nearly 8 Weeks now and very impressed with its performance biggest draw back is FWD. 265 bhp through the Front wheels makes it very difficult not to spin the wheels when pulling away hard especially in the wet
Got the DSG box and in D will change up to 6th at about 35mph great for it’s economy figures but needs to be kept in S or Manual for the most fun
Looks so much better than the 2.0 GT I had 18 Months ago, with its subtle body kit 19” Alloys and the Twin Exhaust,
Suppressing how many looks it gets although White is the best colour (imo)
So couple of pictures to share with you because although it’s nice I don’t think I'll be keeping it until October when the RS5 arrives.

it has an electronic diff, using the brakes to slow down the inside wheel.

quote "Like the new Golf GTI, the Scirocco R is equipped with a standard electronic differential, dubbed XDS. In fast corners, it subtly applies brake pressure to the front inner wheel, which sends more torque to the outer wheel."

Looks great Real Thing!

As you know, I have a white 2.0 GT currently and the R just looks so much better - the smoked rear light clusters are great....I presume that they would fit the regular 'roc too....hmmmmm!

Glad you're enjoying it. Out of interest, how is it on fuel economy compared to the 2.0 GT?

Cheers

John

Thought it was 4WD like the R20 Golf. I thought about getting one of those instead of my E91 but once you spec it up it wasn't that far off the price of the beemer, so the beemer won

Looks very nice Chris, but can imagine that BHP through the front wheels at times.

So, is October a definite for the RS5 then?

Works well when Cornering but straight-line acceleration is where it's let down.

The Scirocco is already a great looking Car but yes the R package does give it a subtle but meaner road presence.
Can't remember what the GT was like (only had it for a couple of weeks) but the R is returning well above 30 on average only drops to the low 20s even with a bit of spirited driving.

The R20 name never materialised it's either Golf R or Scirocco R and I think if VW had have made the Scirocco R 4wd it would have been in direct competition with it's 3 Door Golf (and it's Audi S3)
Apart from Badge snobbery the Scirocco is on par with all the 335s I've owned in fact performance wise it's only above 60 mph where the BM would start showing it a clean pair of heels and even then the Scirocco would probably have the edge on a track.

Dealer keeps informing me I'll have the 1st RS5 allocated to there dealership (salesman bullshit I know) but if true I will be hoping for a early October Delivery also expressed an interest in the RS3 for next year if the rumours are true.

According to Fifth Gear last night you should have bought the Megane RS (whatever it's called)...
