Anyone blown an N54 from BPU mods?
I'm going to be buying an '07/'08 335 coupe soon and have been reading, reading, reading to get up to pace with what's going on.
I have read pages and pages of threads and I've yet to come across someone who's blown up their motor with BPU mods. I'll probably do a Procede (whatever v. is latest when I get the car), catless dp's, exhuast, FMIC, DCI, and that will probably be it (and an upgraded clutch when the time comes). The car I can afford will probably be out of warranty. Have these N54's been pretty durable running 15psi with full BPU? |

Yes, this engine(N54) is over-engineered. If you want to run 15+psi in Chicago, you might want to look into getting methanol.

No really any blown engines... Not even blow turbos.. Basic mods tuned properly with the right octane and mods to support eachother have been very reliable in power and engine wise.

I just picked that example (15psi) out of the air from whatever I've been reading. Shooting for a numeric amount of boost is a silly goal. I just want whatever's safe on 93 octane with the above mods. It'd be nice to make as close to 400whp as possible, but I won't use meth.
I had a boost sensing switch in my meth kit fail on me in a previous vehicle and blew the motor. I don't like adding extra complexity any more than I have to. |

the engine itself is solid the known issues are:
Injectors High Pressure Fuel Pump VANOS, seems to be mostly in older builds (2008 and before) Turbo Rattling (turbos generally operate fine, it's just they start rattling) Most of the above, except for the HPFP seem to be resolved with updated part#'s Overall this car is not too bad when compared to other euro cars with this power potential. |

Procede only raises boost and lowers ignition when it is sensing meth flow. Otherwise it is running a boost and ign retard that is safe for just pump, so you don't need to worry about this.
