How much for a new rear E91 Bumper (with PDC in)

Fella who lives next door to my ancient father managed to reverse his Passat in the the back of my E91 this afternoon - no metal damage but made a large push in 'dent' on the bumper section. Car has only done 2k miles and is immaculate so I want to get it sorted - Any one any indication of cost for replacement? Just wondering what we are looking at (guy came to the door and told me and will pay to get it fixed) Bumper has the leccy towbar behind and PDC built in - both seem to work ok.

Bl**dy irritating but sortable - could do with just a rough cost indication . . .

why you dont go trough insurance? especially being brand new car, i would definitely claim.

because it goes on your insurance as a 'claim' ? going to come knocking to this guy for the added premium for the next 5 years are you?

i would always avoid claiming if at all possible

When I had my E91 rear-ended it was about £1500 for the actual repair.

All costs covered by the other side (including loan E91 330d) and no effect on insurance premiums as it was non fault and all costs were met by the other guy.

Sorry to burst your bubble... As the driver in a non-fault accident, you are now a statistically higher risk than you were before, and your premium WILL be increased for the next 5 years. If you don't believe me, when it comes to renewal time, get 2 quotes - one with the claim declared, one without

Back to the OP, to be completely fair to your neighbour, get a proper, written quote from wherever you would choose to have the work done. That way there's no quibble, no feeling from him that you're trying to pull a fast one.

If he doesn't want to pay what will inevitably be around the £1.5k mentioned above, then it will have to be through his insurers

wow, had to check i hadn't written that! was going to say exactly this last night..

obviously the effects are lessened greatly by age and driving experience, so if you are old.. go for it

As this was about 2 1/2 years ago the figures are there to show no price hike as a result of this. I'll admit that I was expecting a big jump and so was pleasantly surprised.

Kind of want to avoid going via insurance if poss - I had my 335d nicked last October so really don't want to get involved in another claim.

I think I will lob it in to a dealer and get a proper written quote and present it to him and see where we go.

Been to Sytner in Coventry . . . Whole thing comes in at £1,117.31 . . .

Ouch!

Needs a new rear bumper cover etc

Guess the fella isnt going to like it when I tell him . . .

Always best to try a face to face agreement first. Either he pays for his 'error' now or he pays for the next 5 years!!

Claiming always hikes up the repair bill ultimately.

What's the first thing body shops ask? Is it an insurance claim or private payment?

They know how to play the game with insurers to get maximum profit out of it.
