Hi,

This is a bit of a silly question but when I press the boot button on the remote control, is the boot supposed to open or just unlock? If its supposed to open then i think mine is broken

It unlocks, but does not open.

Have that on my Freelander 2 - press the button it unlocks but doesn't open, can't see the point, you still have to grab the handle and open the tailgate!

Ok,thanks for the responses...shame it doesnt actually open, would be a nice feature especially as its the case on most other "premium" branded cars....

i put it down to a safety/security feature in that if you open the boot and put your keys in and then shut it.. there is no way to get them out.

on the other hand, if the rest of the car is open... then phew, you can just open the boot up again

Mine opens fully via the button on the key remote and also via a switch on the inside of the drivers door.

If someone was standing behind the car and you didn't like them, it would be a good way of smacking them on the chin! Have to watch no-one is standing there.....or not lol.

Would be easy to put the key inside the boot, shut the lid and oh bugger, locked out. Down to common sense I suppose.

If you've got comfort access though, no probs.

Handy feature overall I would say and combined with comfort access certainly makes access to the boot easier when your hands are full.

Pros and cons to both systems I suppose.

Porsche don't do it either FWIW. In fact on the 911 you open it like a bonnet (it is the bonnet!) so bend down as well and grope for the catch release once it's popped open slightly.

5 series boot opens properly.

It's a cost thing I think - cheaper gas struts. The e46 was the same.

Mine opens (e90) but doesn't lift all the way as it's too heavy since I fitted the spoiler.
Caught me out a couple of times as it's bounced when driving and the light comes on.

I'm guessing this is a cost thing as on my 6 series it unlocks and lifted.

mine just pops open, and you life it yourself
