Life after college
What's it like? My last final is Friday and I've been thinking about this a lot. How's the social life? I'm already dreading this because I'm moving back home, and my High School/College friends are all spread out. Some are going to grad school and such too. What's dating like? I've been single for a few months and I would imagine it a lot harder out in the real world? lol. Sort of an emo thread...Oh well! OT, share your experiences!

You're going to make new friends at your place of work.
It's funny because when you're in college..you just wanna hurry through it so you can make the moolah already. But when you're out of college, you don't really want to be in the real world and want to be back in college where you get vacations. |

It's hard the first year...
Granted, I graduated in 2002 (when the economy was in the shitter). I had to move home and live with my parents since I could find a job... it was terrible. Eventually it gets better... way better. You just need to get settled into your new life and make new friends and it all works out in the end. But the social/emotional high you have been on for the last four years does end pretty abruptly, so prepare yourself. |

It's the same for everything. In HS you can't wait to get out and go to college. In college you wish you were back in HS and can't wait to get it over with. Then you enter the real world and you wish you were back in college. I've learned to enjoy the moment and ride it as long as possible. After college you basically just gotta find your own way because your friends will have their own things to do. I still keep in touch with many friends from college but only hang out with a few of them from time to time. Everyone just have priorities so those week night or spontaneous hangouts are rare (if any). As for chicks, you better grow some balls and just go for it. Besides work, you'd only meet girls at parties, through friends, public, and bars/clubs. Basically if you see someone you're attractive to and you don't go for it right away, you'd lose that chance. At least in college you have more time to get to know her and make your move. G'luck with it either way! Which college are you graduating from? Last edited by BMW F22; 06-08-2010 at 11:55 PM.. |

no one really addressed the social life other than friends through work.
While you're still young, your friends will be similar to college friends...if your'e lucky. A year or 2 later, when people start to get married, or start to grow up.... it becomes a lot more difficult to create impromptu outings, or to just hang out. growing up pretty much blows in the social aspect..unless of course you get lucky and can find some awesome friends who agree with you on the growing up blowing thing! |

haha, relax. Try to enjoy every minute of it and don't bitch about having to study and such. Going abroad after graduation and see the world for half a year, then I'll try to look for a job after that. Quote:

After I got my B.S., my mom, my friends, and I dashed out to grub because I was pretty hungry. Graduating from college didn't touch me too much, emotional wise. The first day I stepped on a college campus, the atmosphere was COMPLETELY different. I found some of the HS friends through social websites through out the last several years and for most of them, we grew apart. I no longer have much in common with those who didn't go to college. As for girls, I'm totally convinced that you can pull a fair share amount of chicks regardless of how you look, as long as you can talk. The way I see it, if you don't approach them at all, you have 0% at succeeding. If you approach them, you at least have a chance, even if it's really low. I hang out at the local Starbucks pretty often, from doing my grad work to now studying for the GMAT. I've gotten 3-4 numbers from girls who I found to be interested in. Although nothing serious sprung up (since I'm not ready for anything now), they became pretty good friends. This is life, man. It's going to be rare as hell to keep a friend for a lifetime. You or they may move away due to job relocation or whatever else. You just have to adapt. I personally like meeting new people. And if you want to have more guy friends, just start going to a local gym on a regular basis, haha. |

Just finished my last college exam today! Off to the races! I did some SCCA racing back in 2006-2008 and I can't wait to hit the track again with all the time I have on the weekends. Going to instruct for NASA this year and maybe go racing again next year!
With regards to social life, I think I am just going to meet people at work. I'm working for a Fortune 500 company that has taken in a lot of new talent so I'm sure there will be plenty of people my age. I met a lot of people in college, but I never partied as much as most. If I could do it all over again, I would probably have tried to party harder. But I am at the absolute top of my class, a good amount of friends/contacts, and a decent job at a nice waiting for me. I'm really looking forward to spending some more time with my grandparents/parents/family as well. During college, I was away from them quite a bit. |
