How come the 335i fuel filter is not meant to be replaced regularly ?

This is strange if you ask me. I would like to change the fuel filter on my 335i more often because gas in my country sucks, but at $220 (P/N 16117163295) and not easy replaceable...is it mean to never be replaced ? I mean, how clean does BMW expect that the gas is so it can stay on the car for let's say 100000 miles ? On my other car I have to replace the filter every 10000 miles. Why not on BMW ?

Does anyone know, is the filter easily accessible ? I am thinking of changing it on my own...

EDIT: Found some nice info on this forum about installing an auxiliary fuel filter...I suppose this can only benefit the HPFP life. Attached is the instruction document.

Yea, they think the fluid in the AT never needs to be changed either. I think it is just to save on maintenance costs that they don't recomend changing it and doesn't mean you shouldn't. I am going to start doing all these over looked things pretty soon also.

I wanted 2 chang the AT fluid at my expense at the stealership, but they told its a waste of money and they could only drain 4L out and its just not worth it. So I dunno who 2 believe.

Anyone who has changed there AT oil, please chime in on your experience.

Also I would like to know about the fuel filter, never took that into consideration, good question OP

ZF says the life time rating means 100,000 miles. That also only for typical street driving. I believe I read they recommend 50,000 if you are a spirited driver. I run a tune so I am changing mine. Plus when I first got my car the shifts were almost not even noticeable and now I only get that fast of a shift when every thing is cold.

I wonder if someone could find the part number for the auxiliary fuel filter (I attached a document to the first post describing installing an auxiliary fuel filter). I am so afraid of a HPFP failure ouside my 4-month-remaining warranty that I would like to install such a filter...

My HPFP was replaced at 10000 miles (after running exlusively on German 100 oct V Power ) so i think that fuel quality is only part of the HPFP problem. I believe your theory on the fuel filter is correct as they replaced mine (without me asking for it) when they changed the HPFP.

Unfortunately i cannot help with the part no as my car was sold this week and all of the invoices etc have gone with it. Your dealer will be able to get you the number.
