Help.......must not change car..........

Had my 118d 6 months now, it replaced my old Cayman S - decided to be a bit more sensible for a while...............

I'm now struggling big time - Over the past 5 years or so I've changed my cars quite a bit, had some fairly nice ones.

The 118d is a very good car, remapped, handles great

But god I want something sexy

It would make sense to keep the 118d for another 6-12 months at least

Any tips on how to resist?

No tips on how to resist here! I take it you work hard for a living so .....if you can afford it without adversely affecting your current standard of living then i would say DO IT. Why not, as has already been said 'you only live once' and although a bit of a cliche it is 100% true.

The fact that you're even on the forum asking this question means that your mind is probably already 75% convinced that you will get a new car! What would you spend the cash on if you didnt buy a new car and would it bring the same happiness to your life as a new motor would?

Get on the net, build the car that you really want and get down to the dealers and place that order!

If you change now, the moeny you'll lose will negate the cost savings of being in a 118d instead of a porsche for the last 6 months. Surely that is enough.

Failing that, ask the Mrs what she would like improving on the house, new bathroom perhaps

Your heavily pregnant wife could claim she can't get comfortable in her Prius due to it's lack of telescopic steering wheel adjustment, forcing you into said Prius, there's a change for you.

Is there such a thing as a 'car change' virus?

I can go for few months loving my car and being really happy with it....then I catch the bug and just want to swap it for anything different for no real reason

You could always trying doing something 'semi-sensible' - there's quite a jump from a Cayman S to a 118d - surely there's something mid-point that would still float your boat yet still allow you to keep control of the purse-strings ?? A budget of say £20k surely gets you something used that ticks quite a few boxes???

I did that a couple of years ago - had a lovely Volvo S60R - remapped, plus I had a Triumph Speed Triple bike.

Best combo I ever had, and I should have stuck with them

Sold them both for a E90 325d - lovely but I shouldn't have changed

I find that telling my wife in advance about my car buying plans normally puts a whole new perspective on things so I keep what I have got/already wasted too much money on.
