Loss of drive ?
Hello,
Wondering if anyone has had the same problem with their 335D. Basically after a period of driving the car gives up the ghost. When pressing the accelerator no power will be transferred to the wheels. The reves rise but the speed does not increase in comparison. The speed will increase but at a very slow rate of mph. If you stop, turn the engine off and on again the problem vanishes. There are no warning lights on the dash. Have heard it may be a valve in one of the turbo's but not sure. Any ideas ???? |

I think you need to get it to the dealer if it's still under warranty or a reputable garage if it's expired. Either way you should seek professional advice ASAP. I don't have a detailed knowledge of the E90 auto box, but it sounds like torque converter slippage. |

It's a auto, but like everything in life the warranty ran out a month before the problem started.
I will take it to a garage, just waiting for the next pay packet to pay the labour charges |

No leaks or anything like that.
Warranty was with AA and from past experience with them in other departments, don't think they know meaning of good will gesture. Also problem only occurs on hard driving, if you drive nice and reserved the problem does not occur |

This problem will not go away and if there's no visible evidence of oil leaks, it strengthens my suspicion about the torque converter. Apparently it's a known problem and it won't be cheap to fix. |

A big advantage of having halogens over xenons, one supposes...
Surely worthy of a letter to Evo about over-priced fashionable nonsense??

It was the ONLY time I've been glad I have halogens (apart from the fact that I don't blind other drivers and get even more hated as a BMW driver).
£12 fitted at HiQ about a mile away. |

The only xenons that blind people are chavvy after-market crap.

Why did I get flashed at many times in my xenon equipped Golf then?
They are better but they do upset some (not many) people. I'm not one of them though and I do (apart from last week) think a near £40k car should have xenons as standard. My £24k previous car did after all. |

Presumably because the alignment was out which would get you flashed in a halogen-equipped car too. My last five cars have had HID lights and I've never been flashed on dipped beam.

Nope - I had the alignment checked (often goes wrong in R32s) and it was spot on. Same when driving my inlaws bi-xenon X5.
Look I like xenons but the halogen bulb was £12 fitted and I can't say I find myself lacking in light with the standard ones. In other halogen cars, yes, but these seem okay. I'd still rather have xenons as I prefer the "cleaner" light they throw out. |
