Update on 335d front pads and discs..........

I bought some discs from Mintbitz on Ebay : (not these exact ones but this is who they are)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

They are drilled and grooved like the photo at the top of the page........... i called them and they did £120 delivered for a pair of the 348mm diameter discs

I then bought a set of EBC redstuff pads on ebay for £90 delivered - unfortunately the W***ers i bought them off took 3 weeks to get them to me so i've had to wait..................... and have just fitted them this morning............ so a leisurely hour and a half later(listening to ZZ Top and AC/DC) and they're all done

I've always thought modern BM(E46 onwards) brakes have been pretty good as standard - the 335d's especially so

The EBC bumf for Redstuff say they're very low dust pads and will take 500 miles to bed in properly

I can't wait for that, because they feel REALLY sharp already - in the first mile!!!

TOTAL COST was £210
BM quoted £355

RESULT!

What miles were on your car when it needed pads and disks replaced. Always seems to me that BMW need disks changed at quite low miles.

60k on the clock and the discs would have managed another set of pads........... but for £210 i wanted to upgrade in one hit........... I want to do a drifting day and a track day this summer - so i want them right first time..........

As opposed to stealer price of £350 + a couple of hours labour and you're easily looking at about £550-£600 all in.............

Pics would be nice.

I've got Ferodo race DS2500 pads waiting to go on, but am undecided wether to change the discs or not as they've only got 20k on them.

20k would mean they've got a long way to go...although those pads will eat through them a tad quicker!

Yep, but it would make sense labour wise to get discs put on with pads / brake lines and suspension works etc all together.

I can sell the OE discs on ebay for sure, or keep them as spares.

I just can't find anything better (not just looks better, but actually works better) than OE or OE replacement at the mo.

335i/d fitment is pretty rare for aftermarket stuff.

Yeah it is, had the odd look now and then out of habit/interest, either means that it's good at OE level or it's too pricey to upgrade!

You've got a point about the labour, and you'd probably get slightly better performance from the pads, but I'd have said it could wait until the next pad change and you could save on the labour for that one maybe. Probably more cost efficient in the long run as you may not get too much for secondhand discs (although I guess they'd be an upgrade for some..).

Just called BMW, 335i/d OE front discs are £240 a pair from BMW (with 10% discount) so the OP's quote of £350 for discs and pads fitted is pretty damn good IMO!

Might as well wear them out first - I paid for them after all

Max - make sure you follow the running in instructions with the pads to get the best results.

pics wouldn't help really, as all you can see are the discs - which look EXACTLY like the ones in the link above and you can't see the pads.........
