Coffee Snobs?
Who's with me? What do you like drinking?
I'm not talking to the venti/half-caff/no whip/soy/chai latte drinkers. I'm not even talking to the more pedestrian "French Vanilla" drinkers from Dunkin Doughnuts... And I sure as hell don't want to hear from anyone who uses flavored creamers. I have no respect (litterally I loose respect) for people who just swoon over Irish Cream or Hazelnut coffee creamers. I mean, what's the point? ![]() I want to hear from lovers of straight ground (naturally flavored) drip coffee. 1. Favorite Home Drip Brand/Type 2. Favorite "Premium Walk-Up" Starbucks/Peets/Coffee Bean/Caribou 3. Favorite "in a pinch/maintenance/airport coffee" McDonalds/BK/Dunkin' For me: 1. Illy Medium Roast (pre-ground) Rediculously $$, but so good. 2. If I'm near, gotta go with Intelegensia, second best would be Peets 3. Hard to beat a regular McDonalds (unflavored) coffee these days. |

I'll bite:
1. Deidrich Coffee Sumatra and Zimbabwe (not sure if its avail now); 3) Coffee Bean French Roast 2. Since Starbucks bought and killed Diedrich's...Peets Coffee 3. Nobody makes decent drip coffee IMO since they don't use French Presses..so in a pinch i go for Starbucks Double Shots.. |

I am not a coffee snob, but here is what I have learned.
Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - Tastes like burned ass Caribou Coffee - Tastes like burned caribou ass Seattle's Best - A huge lie, unless Seattle is a sewer, because this coffee tastes like poop water Starbucks - Burned, but not too assy. Drinkable and enjoyable. Peets - The best chain store coffee I've had, I like it a lot And yes, flavored creamers are gross. They taste like chemicals. TBH I am not much of a hot coffee drinker unless it's very cold outside. I'm more of an iced latte person. But I like them strong and rich without that shitty burnt/bitter taste of cheapness. favorite drip/home brew - no idea, I never make coffee at home. My friends have some good stuff when I go to their house. favorite chain - see above Favorite in a pinch - dunkin donuts coffee isn't bad. McDonalds iced coffees are way oversweetened but not terrible. Last edited by FStop7; 06-16-2010 at 06:45 PM.. |

I'm 18 and I'm a coffee addict. I live in Canada so you really can't go wrong with Tim Horton's. I'm mostly a double double or 3 cream 3 sweetener(Splenda) guy.

I wouldn't call myself a 'coffee snob'. Although, my gf calls me a snob, so I guess that makes me a coffee snob too?
![]() You kids can't be serious? Tims isn't 'real' coffee. Its commercial cheapness to please the masses. A DD from tims is more like a milkshake. I will admit to drinking them sometimes, purely out of conveince. And a triple triple? Lets not go there. That's not coffee. |

Well, ofcourse its not the most hardcore coffee out there, but it is coffee none the less. I some times have a big 355ml of red bull and have a x-large coffee after an hour. I can't stand starbucks and there super "macho coffee" drinker attitude. |

I get drip coffee from Starbucks every morning.
McDonalds coffee sucks, tastes like burnt pretzels.

If you have to get drip style coffee...get an Americano and ask for lots of room..That'll taste much better.

Peets Coffee ...The one and only. The rest of them can go to hell unless you live in Europe where the real shit is served.

^^^ I concur.
Diedrich used to be the one & only. Now its Peets. Dont really care for Kean. I only use a french press + boiling water. No off the shelf coffee makers get the water hot enough to make good coffee in my opinion.

I started out with Peets, and still used them and Kean when I lived in SoCal, but use a local roaster here and alternate between Intelligentsia from Chicago (but they have stores in Silverlake and Santa Monica) or Caffe Vita from Seattle. Press only, but an occasional Bialeta shot just to see how the beans do with a different method. Most decent online places will roast your order the day after you order and send them out that day, so even from Seattle I tend to get beans that are no more than three days off the roaster, and can be done with a one pound bag just a little over the two week limit of snob acceptability. |

French press all the way. I will try some of these listed and broaden my limited taste buds. I use SB's Sumatra or Espresso Roast and from reading this thread I think I am missing out by thinking it is really good.
Not that a snob would ever try it but for those reading FYI. I bought this stuff because I like to try new things. The absolute nastiest swill I have ever had. Just undrinkable. I put heavy cream in mine. Hides behind coffee cup.. |

Don't the original owners of Starbucks now own Peets?
I was watching some documentary on Starbucks and I thought I heard that. I also heard that the original owner of Peets used to roast all of the Beans at the first Starbucks in Seattle. |

Starbucks is way $$$ for what you get. McD's and DD compare to them and are less expensive.
