Talking PROcede Questions: Version Identification, USB Cable = JB3 Datalogging Cable?

Hey guys,

Long time JB3 user here. Just bought a PROcede just to see what all the hype is about. I'm a little skeptical but anyway... I have a couple of questions:

How do I know what version of the PROcede I have? I hope it's V4. The box is silver and the harness says "PROcedeCANbusX" on it.

Here's a picture:

Also, my PROcede didn't come with the USB-to-serial cable. I do have the JB3 datalogging cable. Can I use the JB3 cable with the PROcede with no problems or do I need to buy a different one?

Thanks!

You're good to go on the hardware. I don't think there are any pre-CAN Rev.2s floating around out there. So there is nothing to do other than maybe update to the autotuning firmware/maps. If you need those, email me at shiv@vishnutuning.com.

I don't think you can use the bms datalogging cable since that has the serial comms hardware built into it. The serial hardware is built in the procede itself so all you need is a basic serial $2 serial cable. Of if your laptop only has USB, just a standard USB-Serial cable from Radio Shack or wherever. Then just install the drivers that come (on CD) with the usb-serial cable. Make sure the ports match up (between the Procede software and the port assigned to your laptop by the device manager). Then you should be able to communicate with the Procede and update/view/datalog/etc,.

Skepticism is good.

Shiv

Oh.. and no need to keep that remote relay box plugged in. It is no longer necessary for mapswitching. The connector that it plugs into is now used for nitrous control.

Nice, so I can essentially remove that box and chuck in the garbage?

What length USB-to-serial cable should I get, especially if I want to route it into my glovebox?

Should, but you may just want to grab the one from Radio Shack as I am sure there is one nearby. Let me know if you have any questions or issues as I see you are local.

Monoprice FTMFW!

Nivedh, glad you got your hands on a PROcede, I'd love to meet up with you one of these days and discuss your impressions/go for a spin.

Ciao,

-Walter

I'm having problems staying connected to the PROcede. Tried it on Windows 7, Vista, and XP with no luck. Also had laptops plugged in to the wall outlet and disabled USB selective suspend. So now the PROcede is temporarily bricked because I can't get past 1% for uploading the firmware. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it may be the USB to serial adapter. However, go back and verify the settings and that you have the correct port selected.

Do you have another or access to a laptop with a serial port?

Let me know if you continue to have issues and we can see if we can meet up.

I tried pretty much everything, including installing Windows XP Mode on Virtual PC, changing COM ports, and more. It must be the cable. Unfortunately, I don't have a laptop with a serial port. I frequent the Woodstock area a few times a week so it would be great if we could meet up. Please PM me your availability - tomorrow would be great!

Thanks to scalbert for updating the firmware for me! You're a life saver.

Installed the PROcede today. Will post impressions soon. So far it's very smooth.

On a related note, do not buy that USB-to-serial cable from Monoprice. It has a lot of problems staying connected to the PROcede.
