2008 M3 automatic vs 2011 335is manual
I'm not saying which one is faster/better nothing like that.
I had 2009 335i coupe black manual and unfortunately the car was totalled. Stupid dodge ram T-boned me bad. As I was shopping around mercedes, audis, and others I couldn't stop me starring at bmws again. So here I am. With a cheque written from ICBC, the brandnew M3 is slightly out of my budget but I can go for a used 2008 M3 black automatic 20000 kms. or I can go for brandnew 2011 335is black manual. do you think it's legit enough for me to give up a manual transmission cuz it has the name 'm3'? damn I love driving manual....

wooo.... damn car crash..! I wish you didnt injored. I moved to U.S now but until last year, I lived in lynnvalley area and lonzdale 15th. Hpy to see my neighbor here.
Anyway, as far as i know, btw M3 and 335is they have totally different purpose of the car. M3 - real hard driving. dont care of gas uses. too much power of daily driving( my opinion) 335is - less power than M3 but more efficient to drive daily. more comfort um... I suggest more 335is than M3. Specially Vancouver area you dont need super super fast car. traffic, police whatever.... |

DCT is designed to be driven in manual mode and will hold its revs on the limiter unlike an Auto which will change even if you don't want it to. Of course i will miss aspects of driving a stick, but i would strongly suggest that you test drive this transmission before you make a decision - you might well be amazed. As for 335is or M3 - one is a very fast regular 3 series and one is a true performance car that can compete with much more expensive machinery on track and road with no mods requiered.......depends what you are looking for in a car. If ultimate handling, engine noise and general driving dynamics are what you are looking for in a car then straight from the factory only one of these cars will give you what you want - i bought a new 335i last year thinking it would give me what i wanted ....it didn't. You are not just buying the name 'M3' as you stated in your post....80% of the parts are different from a standard 3 series for a reason. These cars are totally different in their purpose, which one will suit your needs/aspirations best is a question only you can answer. Both are great cars - test drive them both and the choice will be easier for you.

IMO you'll miss the proper good old manual. So go for the manual transmission... or why can't you look around, there should be a manual M3 somewhere...

I have had 3 BMW's and could never bring myself to depart from a manual transmission. If you enjoy driving with a stick and 3 pedals, it will kill you not to have them!

have a look at the m3 and the 335is side by side, the m3 looks so much sexier. My lease is due soon, and i was thinking about the 335is, but after comparing both and driving both, the m is a beast. if i were u and would look a bit more and try to find a m3 with a stick.

test drive both, it's the only way to make the proper decisions. i wouldn't rely on a total stranger on the internet giving you advice on a very large purchase.

Also, don't buy into the "DCT isn't an automatic transmission" hype either. It doesn’t matter if there’s a torque converter or computer shifting the gears, if the car can shift itself, it’s an automatic… I’ve never driven a dual clutch car, but the DCT is admittedly an amazing automatic transmission that can shift faster and more efficiently than any mortal driver is capable of. However, I’m pretty certain that downshifting into turns and upshifting out of turns can't be nearly as satisfying when the car is doing all the work for you.
