two lives were lost, most likely due to his lack of action. he's an EMT ffs. how can you just say 'call 911'. he and that other woman are literally TRAINED and PAID to assist in that exact sort of situation.

Wow a fucking waste of life.
On a side note... Damn, I go to greenhouse all the time and I service the building that it is in. Scary shit. Gonna make me think twice next time someone talks shit to me in the club. |

Maybe it was an unrelated homicide... Perhaps he is a douche 100% of the time and he rubbed someone the wrong way while inside the club. There is a post on google reviews for the USPS office near me where someone was having a heart attack in the lobby and when someone asked the postal worker to call 911 she stated that she was "on her break". I weep for the future... this country is going to implode from its rampant selfishness. |

call me a sick maniac, but i like to see the world be balanced once and a while. I'm a healthcare worker in NY. I got into the field i'm in and made it my duty to help every patient i see. there are many times i walk into my department with lunch in my hand and still take the time to assist someone. the guy got what he deserved. id be careful if i was the chick.

If that's true and he really did ignore someone in need of help because it was his coffee break then he deserved to die. |

The EMT was a douche for not helping, but did he deserve to die? I read a few of the comments below the article and it suggested the EMT Was actually a dispatcher, and while he did have training he was not experienced. I think he should have tried to help before the real experienced EMTs with proper equipment arrived, but how can you blame him if he didn't know what the hell he was doing and just wanted to stay out of the way?
The story about that postal worker not having the decency to call 911 is pretty saddening to hear. |

EMT's don't know/do much, really. We can't even give people Tylenol.
On a side note, walking away from a dying pregnant woman is disregarding the standard of care, and terrible. He should have at least called ALS and intervened w/ breathing or w/e the woman needed.

AFAIK, that's not the purpose of good samaritan laws. They were enacted in a few states to make people act when they're witnessing a crime, instead of doing nothing. Calling the cops to report the crime is enough to satisfy your duty though, you don't actually have to jump in and try to help somebody. The vast majority of states still follow the "American Bystander Rule" though meaning that you don't have to do a damn thing if a crime is going on. Pull up a chair and watch if you want to...NY is an american bystander state btw
