Registration and Insurance Questions in Austin
Hey guys, I was wondering how much you guys pay for registration and insurance in the Austin area. I've been looking to move and I'm just trying to figure out the cost of living. I'm starting out with car payments first, because well, I want to keep my car ... Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Registration is < $100 dollars annually for current Tx residents......significantly less than SoCal and not dependent on your car's value.
For new Texas residents slighty more initially : http://www.txdmv.gov/vehicles/drivers/new_residents.htm Insurance is dependent on too many factors......

My registration has typically been about $70 per year; State inspection runs around $35 per year. Insurance will depend on several factors that determine the "rating factor". Travis and Williamson counties are not too bad. Shop around and you'll find a good deal, but make sure your coverage is adequate. I've been with State Farm for many years, so I stick with them because of the discounts I get.
