recall for HPFP software fix

my car was at the dealer for an alignment. and the SA informed me there was a recall on the car for a software update and it's related to preventing problems with the HPFP. not sure how software can fix this, but thought i'd point it out to anyone else with 335i's (or other cars affected).

i'm getting the recall number/info emailed to me and will post.

There are numerous threads on this if you search.
My 335Xi had 2 HPFP replaced and they updated the software, too!
Now...every time when unlock the doors, I can hear some weird sounds..might be pressurize from the fuel system...

it was done when the called me.

he told me the number was 138210 but that doesn't correspond to any TSB that bmw published.

interesting how this fix is an action to prime the pressure when the door is unlocked, never even realized those actions could be linked (door and fuel pump).

i'll do a search to get more info on this.

That's not the case as my car has made this sound since delivery. I have Jan 09 build and numerours people with newer builds and newer software have the 'priming' sound and have had the HPFP replaced.

there's actually a technical service bulletin for lag (and the solution is a software update).

I just had my 335's HPFP replaced, 09/06 build date. I noticed more and more lag to where it was almost jerky response and not fun to drive. Put your foot down and it would respond after about 3sec no matter what the speed. I had to keep it in DS just to make the drive tolerable. I got the software update because of rough idle and long cranks to start. The update was suppose to elimiate the lag too. I didn't think the lag was related to the pump failing, but I guess it was because with the new pump it drives like a bat outta hell again!

I was also having issues with the first starts of the day. I would start the car and the idle was erratic and sometimes stalled. I would shut down and restart and the problem went away. I used two bottles of techron concentrate thinking it was clogged injectors. It helped until those 2 tanks of gas got low, then the rough idle and poor starts in the morning came back. Then one day when accelerating onto the expressway the car felt like it was running on three cylinders. Bam HP fuel pump

I also got scheduled this Saturday for this new software update which targets the HPFP failure. Strange, because my car always has the pressurizing sound whenever I unlocked the door. I think this update is something new... Never got this update last time I brought my car in 3 months ago.

wow, it takes them more than one day to update this? Damn... I'm upset because my dealer is more than 40km away.

I had the software update done about 1 month ago for the exact problem, but now I’m slowly noticing longer cranks and a bit of sputtering again in the mornings. My warranty is up in 2 months so I’m crossing my fingers that bmw does the proper thing this time and gives me a new pump (no. 3 for my 335). The last thing i want is to pay for a new fuel pump the second my warranty lapses.

On my 2nd replacement. At the dealership right now. Noticed long cranks first and the dealership did a software update. That fixed the long cranks but then it began sputtering in the morning. Dealership did another software update and it fixed that problem but then today, the check engine light came on and finally the dealership agreed to replace the pump.

BMWNA is forcing dealerships down the software path first before doing the replacement.

The dealership also mentioned that the pump has a longer warranty period because of the known problems. I think he said 100,000 KMs.

Been back and forth to the dealer 3-4 times, since September, for fuel delivery related issues. So far they have, in order:
1. replaced the fuel tank regulator
2. reprogrammed the ECU for HPFP priming
3. replaced HPFP

At my last visit they asked what fuel I am using. I use Chevron 94 (0% ethanol). THe SA's response was that BMW is doing some testing on Chevron fuels as they seemed to think that most failures occur when using Chevron 94. He recommended that I use Shell V-Power (91 octane) until BMW issues a formal report.

Any one else using Chevron 94??

I have been using Shell V-Power in my 2006 E92 335i for 4 years - no HPFP failure yet. Chevron has been advertising 0% ethanol, but I don't trust them one bit. I tried Chevron 94 several times, and on all occasions, the fuel economy was slightly worse, and the power was lacking. Shell is seriously the best.
