Well yesterday I was at the dealers keen as mustard to pick up the 08 plate 325d I had just bought.

As we looked around the car that had done 43k and to be honest looks brand new bar a stone chip or two I was impressed with the car and then the wife spotted on the A-Pillar rust bubbling under the paint

On speaking to the dealer at his desk I didn't believe me at all, he said 2 year old BMWs don't Rust, I told him that I wasn't happy and to have a look himself.

He went to inspect the car with the 3 others, as they came back I was expecting him to give me some excuse, but to my shock he agreed with me and said that was unacceptable.

I was prepared to walk away from the deal as I still had a part-ex to go home in, the patch is as big as half a finger nail, He offered to have it fixed FOC and offered some money back and a free service.

In all my years of owning new cars (15), I have never known a dealer to be so helpful. We both know I could reject the car but its that nice I have decided to keep it.

My Question is has anyone ever heard of something like this happening?

Yes it's been painted. Probably due to accident damage.

Not where this is, the car would have been a write off

All checks done and this car hasn't been smacked or I would have run away from it.

Checks only reveal damage repaired through insurance. Could have had it's window smashed in.

it wouldn't have rusted this QuickLy

Cut and shut without a doubt. Did you check foe weld lines under the car?

Good point. I remember working in London and seeing a cut
and shut in action from a bridge. I think I still have the footage somewhere
on an old phone.

lol Trust me its not a cut and shut and yes I know HPIs aren't perfect either. My dad was a mechanic for over 30 years and I have picked up a thing or two over the years the place where this is by the windscreen, so I was wondering if the water had collected in the seem of the window and the body work.

I have seen this type of thing happen on other makes of cars, even from new where the rear window is not mounted correctly on a car and the water gets trapped between the glass and the bodywork and causes the same issue.

I had same thing on my E46 bubble on the A pillar, probably a stone chip. In my case a bad repair from when preivous owner changed the windscreen and fitters proabbly damaged it.

To be honest thats what I was thinking, The main dealer is going to fix it next week, despite the problem I am loving the car

Why not get hold of the previous owners details and contact them and ask.
