BMW M100 project #442…
BMW M100 project #442…
Hot off the presses… In AutoBild’s latest issue they have a nice photo spread on BMW’s new M100 sports car. There will be even a “green” model called the “BMW i100 Coupe ActiveHybrid”. The M100 will compete with Audi’s R8 V10 and MB’s SLS. AutoBild reports that BMW will show the M100 at the 2011 IAA (Frankfurt Auto Show). Production will start two years later, in 2013. The car will cost MORE than 100,000 euros. The magazine says the M100 will cost a good 170K euros! Planned production numbers are 35,000 units over five year product life. 450 PS (Hp) and a little as 3L per 100kph (86 mpg!) with the i100 model. The M100 is known internally to BMW as “Project 442”. The M100 is just a part of this “Project 442” model lineup. More cars will follow. So far Autobild does not have these photos up online yet. I think that will happen sometime this week. You can check their website here: www.autobild.de Dackelone. Article photos… Front cover… Old concept car from 2009 IAA show… |

I'm somewhat uninterested and slightly disappointed that BMW believes it needs to build a supercar.
Audi needs the R8 in order to boost their average cars image which has been sorely falling behind due to stupid options like 4cy turbos and second rate quality. BMW doesn't need a boost like this -- it makes the best four door sports cars in the world. Also the R8 is a great looking car and certainly amazing. BMW shouldn't try to play 'catchup' here. Same goes with the CLS --> Grand Coupe IMO. But hey if its sexy, rock on. -- This looks a bit like a toy I had in my transformers drawer in the 80's though. |

I think the point isn't just to build a supercar... it's to build a supercar that uses less gas than the average car. BMW will be the first manufacturer that builds a true supercar that can still achieve Prius-like (or better) fuel economy. No one else has anything even close to this in the pipeline... not Ferrari, nor Lamborghini, not even Porsche with their 918 Spyder hybrid car. This is the beginning of a revolution in the auto industry.

I am not so much interested in a BMW Supercar as in a BMW M Coupé wiht 2 seats, light weight and NA H/R engine to drive on the track. A BMW Z4 M GTS / CSL (Coupé) would be fine.

maybe they aren't trying to "keep up" with audi or anything, maybe BMW just wants to blow them out of the water. Besides, they may feel that Audi is taking a small part of the market with the R8 and BMW just wants to take all of audi's market away. haha

Love the look, its about time they compete in that segment again. Only thing is, 35,000 units? I'd like it to be a little more exclusive than that.

I get the whole green and better fuel economy, but why can't BMW give us a balls out super car without the "hey we have a economical version too" scenario. I would like to see the specs of the M1000 super car and not the econo-line version.

Its Nice.. but the front lights need work.... It does not remind me of BMW... And if this is the future BMW stylings its not good... (I just don't like the front lights everything else looks great)
