E92 tyre life

My E92 330d M Sport has standard 19" Bridgestone RFT's.
The car has done 18K miles and remaining tread depth is 6mm front and 4mm rear (that's to the bottom of the groove, not the wear indicator bar) and, apart from the usual tapering on the inner and outer edges, the wear is even across the tyre width.
I'd like to estimate approximately how many miles I have left, but as I didn't buy the car from new, I don't know how much tread depth there is on a new tyre, so I can't calculate the remaining percentage.
Can anyone answer that or, from experience, give me an idea as to how long Bridgestones last?
Shame the front and rear widths are different - I could swap them around and extend the life, but I guess those fatter rears have a considerable influence on the cars stunning cornering ability!

18k miles from a set of rears is VERY good!

I'm almost illegal after 8k miles from new (non RFT tyres).

Oh and I have non staggered tyres and my cars still corners "stunningly" ;-)

Normally they have 8mm in the centre portion

Rotating tyres is not generally accepted as benficial these days.
Mainly down to the wear patterns being very different front to rear.

Probably 2-3K miles rear and 8-9K miles front, depending of course on how you drive

How longs a piece of string.Depend on the type of mileage you do, motorways will keep them going for longer.

I have no idea how long a piece of string is and it has no relevance to my primary question concerning the tread depth on a new tyre.
That has been answered by 'm1bjr' and I can now calculate the approximate remaining life based on my own driving style.
Many thanks to all other respondents for your constructive comments.

have you not had the dreaded inner tyre wear on the rears. this has destroyed ont pair of otherwise perfectly serviceable tyres and is on the way to doing a second pair on my (gently driven) car. ist pair 20,000 miles 2nd starting at 9000 miles. have now increase tyre pressure to see if this helps.

Sorry if you got out of bed the wrong side, but in your post you did ask

Which lead me to think you were asking others on here, "how long do your tyres last"

What do you mean "got out of bed"? I'm still in it; just one of the many advantages of not having to go to work any more!
Yes, I did ask for views as to approximate tyre life, but it was my secondary inquiry and, obviously, can only be answered subjectively.
I reiterate that my primary question concerned original tread depth

Fortunately not, but it would appear to be an issue with the 3 series. If you're seeing excessive inner wear at just 9K it might be worth getting your suspension angles checked; I don't know what specific adjustments there are on the E92, but it sounds as if you might have excessive negative camber on the rear and I would think it could be easily corrected.

Very impressive; the roads in Cyprus must be far smoother than I imagined!

Bit of advice on tyres guys-I am about to purchase my first 335d E92 next weekend and have been offered tyre insurance for around £400 for I think 36 months! It covers all except wear and tear-so is it actually worth it?

I'd want to really study the small-print, the 'tear' bit of 'wear and tear' could include a nail through the tread just when you want to make a claim.
Additionally, the consensus indicates 20K'ish miles from the rears so, depending on your annual milage, you might not get anywhere near 36 months - doesn't the policy also have a milage limitation?

£250 for 2 years and no-fuss replacement sounds very reasonable and I'm interested as I'm close to getting a new set.
Do you remember who provided the cover?

I think the main caveat with tyre insurance policies is that the tyre being claimed on must have 3mm (I think) of tread left at the time of the claim. This is simply to stop people accidently driving over a screw when their tyres are coming up to the legal limit...

Personally, I have not bothered. I just the put money that would have gone on the insurance aside, in the even of a puncture I will just have to buy another one!!

Having said that, if I had a car which used much more expensive tyres, say a Porka or something, then I would probably get it as the costs of a replacement tyre could be astronomical.
