335i oil consumption

Hi all

for those of you who are running remaps on your 335i, how much oil are you using??

I drive fairly quickly and I've used just under a quat of oil in 1500 miles. Mostly city driving.

Is this within normal limits??

Check your manual, but I believe that is in the acceptable level of oil consumption for your car.

Topped up once with a litre after 14000 miles from the last oil change, 4000 to next one. No remap though - why should it make any difference?

a re-map alone shouldn't cause oil consumption.

Either your car drinks it or it doesn't.

I would have thouht that a remaped car that is driven fairly hard would use more oil than a standard one? Higher temps more friction?

So are we sayin a quater every 1500 miles or so is nowt to worry about?

Yves, how hard do you drive your car & is it city or motorway miles?

So are we saying that Zltm089 an myself may have engine issues if we are using much more oil than others? I find it hard to accept that some cars just simply use more than the next!!

Must be down to style of driving and city v motorway??

Thoughts anyone!!

As Carl said earlier, youve either got a boozer or you havent.

Personally, I run my cars in in a textbook like manner and thereafter treat the engine like a faberge egg until its oil is piping hot.

Never had an oil consumption issue on the last 10 new engines.

Any coincidence??

I had my oil change at the start of the year in January. During the middle of July, probably did around 4.5k miles by then, had to fully top up the engine oil again.

Yves, I also never drive the car hard until it's nice n toasty and always let the it cool down after a good blast before I switch it off. However I also drive it like it hard from time to time, why else would you but a 300bhp rwd
monster.

I always wait for the right temperature before i floor it....

I mostly do town/ traffic driving...

and occassionally rinse 1st and 2nd gear....

I've noticed when I drove to Scotland, had to top up....I would definitely need 1 litre of top up oil, I would say every 2000-3000 miles....

A remapped N54 may well use more oil.
The crank breather (PCV) will work a little harder and dump more oil into the intake.
This is from more boost and more blowby, it will get worse on a worn engine.

I run software, and havent noticed any increase in use.
Try more frequent oil changes, cooked oil gets slurped up faster.
I have no loss I can see in 2k on fresh oil.

FWIW, I've found on my 2008 325d that if I top-up the oil to max on the dipstick, it always seems to burn/use up to 1/2 litre, then it stops consuming any more! I've stopped topping it up and no more oil is used! My driving style hasn't changed either.

I've covered 1600 miles since I pruchased the car 2 months ago, and the electronic dipstick has not moved at all - remain at the max point. Mixture of town and motorway driving.

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but it is correct to understand that there is actually no physical dip stick under the bonnet, and you have to rely on the electronic dipstick on the dash as the only way to check the oil level with the engine at operating temperature?

Not all are electronic, mine still has the old fashioned dipstick.
