Has anyone had he new Helix FMIC installed on a 335i yet?
I'm really curious about how the installs are going on these new units. I'm mainly concerned with cutting to fit it in. If anyone has had one installed (the new model), please reply here and let me know how it went.
Thank you...

I ended up cutting a very small amount (maybe 1/4"W x 14"L) of the plastic shroud and a small part of a bracket that I found out later could have been removed. None of this can be seen once you install the FMIC and reinstall the plastic undercover.
You need to cut off the OEM press fit clamps to install any intercooler (except maybe ETS?), so to me trimming a little plastic that is not visible was not that big of a deal. |

From what I have read from people installing these new revised Helix fmic, there is some cutting involved and a bracket that needs to be removed....Its very minor and a handy dremel will take care of that and all the cutting you can do will never cut the engine out of the bottom!! If you faint of heart to cutting, dont get the HPF intercooler!! You have to cut, but its worth its weight in IATs!!!

So those that have installed this, what do you think so far? Does it perform well? Has there been a nice drop in your IAT's? I'm just looking for some feedback as all I can do is stare at mine until Helix finally gets their act together and finishes the late model charge pipe.

The amount of cutting with most intercoolers is so minimal I don't really understand why people get so uptight about it. If you're not comfortable doing something as simple as trimming some plastic bring it to a shop.
If you think your SA is going to void your warranty over a cut plastic panel you're a dummy. |

I currently have the 2nd generation Helix installed, and I just received my new 3rd gen in the mail. I won't be able to suggest much by way of how much cutting is necessary, as I've already had to cut a bit with the current install. I'll make sure to note though how it fits in comparison.
Any suggestions/interest in comparing the two generations before I take this one out? I can run some tests if people are interested.

The cp-e does not require cutting, and we have a SMOKING deal on them right now.... Check it out: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=416836

Hey Guys.. Just wanted to clarify on the trimming question some of you are having:
There are a number of different cowl shapes for the various option packages for the 335. For most of the cowl pieces, there is no trimming required. There may be one or more cowls that need very minor trimming, but it's not necessary for most. PLEASE BE AWARE that the passenger's side bracket piece that is removed with a clip. The piece is about 2-3 square inches and pops out with a clip that you have to reach behind the frame member to unclip. This is often what people try to cut away when they can really just pop it off. We will soon have new detailed instructions and a video for the re-designed intercoolers so that everyone can be 100% confident when purchasing and installing our newest Intercoolers. |

About half way down in the "before" picture to the right, underneath the pic of the couplers. It's right in the middle of the picture. Quote:

The install is pretty straightforward, but I'm sure this will be appreciated by those who attempt DIY in the future! |

Ahah.. very true. We have an in-house on Wednesday, I will snap some pictures if we come across any trimming that needs to be done. Ill also be making a youtube instructional video after that install. That may take a day or two. |

Possession is 9/10ths
I have mine in my living room that I received a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I have been busy with other things. I hope in two weekends I will have the time to do the install.
