Mechanic said not to worry...

I know this topic is overkill but I plan on taking my car to the dealer for HPFP replacement. This is my first service ever with 14k. I have a JB3 and DCI in it. My mechanic who fixed are cars in the past said not to worry about BWM voiding my warantee for that. They would need to prove it blah blah blah and that would be to hard. I just dont have the time to remove the mods. The Jb3 is not a PnP. Any advice??

TAKE OUT THE JB3!!! it only takes 30min to an hour and while your car is getting serviced, order a PNP harness.

+1. There have been tons of people on here that have been told by their mechanic or SA that it will be okay to leave it in only to have their engine warranty voided after they bring it in.

Best thing is to remove them all. Make time. At the very least replace the dci with the stock airbox and drop back down to map 0. Seen too many threads where a mechanic friend says not to worry, and a BMW rep happens to be there a voids the warranty.

+1 to the take it out vote. Time now spent removing is cheaper than an unwarranted BMW.

If your warranty is voided, its no skin off his back, or money out of his pocket..

Take it out, order the PNP harness and call it a day

When in doubt take it out....that is good. I will make time. You guys are right. I will leave it out for a while and see how long the new fuel pump last.

Or ask the mechanic to take it out. At the end it's about the codes on the dme.
(Of course only when your SA and mechanic are "fan" of you) when doubting about them, take it out yourself...

Did you check for dme codes? That's even more important then having your tune in...

I have had my car serviced with the DCI in with no issues. But, the JB3, I definitely took out. Heck, I came close to having my warranty voided, but they could not prove that I had a device installed, other than wires had been moved around. JB3 PnP has not flagged any codes for me, and I run Map 5 on it.

Obviously not ALL dealers are "mod friendly," but I've taken my car in with ALL of my current mods on without any issues whatsoever. Once for an oil change and some other little stuff unrelated to the engine (with time trial #s on the rear 1/4 windows!) and once for an HPFP replacement.

*IF* the dealer is willing to play fair and call you if there's any reason that they could run in to trouble with the replacement, then go for it! Just be sure to set the JB3 to Map 0 - then it'll be completely transparent to their scanner and any programming will go down without a hitch.

He probably doesn't have a BT tool to clear the possible tuner codes in the ecu...

Take it out.... once u remove it and put it back in once, you will understand it even more. ITs pretty straight forward, just follow directions.

i just got a new fuel pump w/ my bolt on's left in (dci, exhaust, fmic). i go to two different dealers. one who's closer to me but not "mod-friendly," i've gone for maintenances and brake services. that dealership told me to remove all mods if i want to get my fuel pump fixed. then i go to a farther but more mod friendly dealer and got my software upgrade and my fuel pump replaced w/out a problem.

i would say removing the tune is a MUST (that was the first thing the "mod-friendly" dealershp asked me, if i had a tune or not). then call the dealership and ask your SA if it's OK to bring the car in w/ your bolt-ons. oh yeah checking your codes before you bring it in is a MUST also.

hope this helps. it's always a dilemma i know
