Upgraded turbos in your future? Check your...

Soo....I've been testing my car with the EPL upgraded turbos and I have to say they are amazing....GOBS and GOBS of power....but today I tried a launch using the V4s launch control and well basically I blew my axles...or at least I think....loaded up to 2600 loud bang no movement...no smoke , no leaking, no codes but when I put the car in park it makes this crunching sound but only when I put it in park.....not d or r or n.....just park.

Sounds pretty clear that you blew the tranny. Do you know how much power you were putting down with your setup?

I've had one auto transmission break on me before and it made crunching sounds like you described. It made the noise when I put it in drive and reverse though and the car would not move.

Garage List
2022 BMW X3  [9.83]
2015 BMW M3  [6.50]
The Fast and The Furious Because They Busted Their Car...

Nothing personal, but you'd think people would be aware that a stronger engine with way more torque than stock needs a stronger driveline, especially when abusing it (hard launches, etc). It's likely going to be a trans component, and those ZF automatics are pricey.

That first line didn't make any sense...but anyway...we all know it needs a stronger drive line...there just isn't one out now so what's your point?

Yea....I took the v4 out and cleared all codes...if it isn't covered under warranty looks like I'll be filing a claim by the end of the week....anyone ever file a claim for mechanical issues before?

Yea but would have thought a tranny code would persist even after I took out the v4....but it didn't...

I almost guarantee it's not the trans.... Follow me here for a sec.

It sounds like something let go that was beyond your trans (driveshaft, half shaft, differential, etc)

When that happened, your trans was spinning freely at the output shaft where your parking pawl is located. When you threw it in park, it simply sounded like grinding as it couldn't drop into the drum rotating beneath it. Same as throwing your car in park before you come to a stop.

That's not our trans, but it shows the "hole" the pawl has to fall into so that Park means stop driveshaft rotation.

Here is a REALLY simple test. Put your car in park, e-brake off, and see if you can push it forward or backward.

So if the car moves while in park does that prove it's not the tranny?
