Removing Procede - necessary to disconnect battery 1st to avoid codes 4 dealer visit?

So far, out of an abundance of precaution before dealer visits, I've always disconnected the battery before uninstalling the Procede, as I thought I'd read that you might throw a code otherwise during the uninstall. I don't recall it being needed from a safety point of view (in that otherwise, you might fry the ECU, for example).

Is that true? It adds another good 20 minutes to my process (I've got an E93 and the battery's a PITA to get to), and would be nice to avoid this step...

its not necessary. Pop the hood, lock the car, let the ECU "go to sleep" (about 10 minutes) before uninstalling and you should be fine. I understand the precaution though, so by no means am I saying that it is bad idea to unhook the battery. I'm so paranoid that I use a BT scanner afterwards JUST TO MAKE SURE (

), but I've never seen codes from taking it off. Like a lot of people say though, putting the value of your warranty to a few more minutes puts things in perspective

It was never really a requirement.. Just an added precaution. Just remember to plug it back in and clear codes prior to dealership visit (as per documentation).

I cleared codes, set it to valet mode drove to dealer a few cities away. Yes they did update my ECU and no issues at all. I didn't hear a peep from any soul.

Can someone verify then the following:

1) Manually Clear Codes, just to make sure.
2) Extra precaution, disconnect battery.
3) If not disconnecting battery: Turn Car off, Lock Doors, put keys inside, let car go to sleep for 10min.
4) Remove Procede.
5) Make sure it is nice and clean, buttoned up properly.
6) Plug Selenoid for Exhaust back in located in trunk.

Sound Ok? Make corrections please if any are needed to that list.

I'm totally of that mindset, and have always disconnected the battery too. It's just that I've gone in for service a couple of times last few months, and it's a bit of an extra PITA to do it, and I might have to disconnect it again in a week or so, as I might have other issues with a failing O2 sensor or an HPFP possibly that might need a dealer visit...

Shiv, what are your thoughts on the disconnecting battery thing? Ever seen a code if it's done correctly?

I remove it without disconnecting the battery and I haven't had any issues or codes. I try not to open any doors or the trunk, and make sure that the ECU goes to sleep, which in my case doesn't take longer than a few minutes.

Also keep in mind that you should keep the key fob away from the car during the install if you have Comfort Access.

Did you try The BMW Store? I never have to remove ANY mods (tune, intake, dp, exhaust) when I go there for service. Just got micro filter replaced today, was also due for program update (recall for hpfp as I'm told), but I chose to not have it done since my car runs perfect. Only thing I did was put it on stock map.

I did work there for like a month awhile ago, maybe that helps? But that just shows how important it is to have good relationship with dealer or SA. I would still say they're just better than BJ and AW.

You guys are lucky to have such great dealers up in Vancouver. A bit too far for me to drive though but I'll keep that one in mind...

I think i'd plug the solenoid back in first, then clear codes? Not sure..i think thats most important if you're catless
