Brake pad warning message ??!
All,
I wonder if you can help me... Basically I've had a red warning light show up regarding my brakes (both front and back), the thing is that when I checked them the other day the idrive indicated 3,500 miles for the rears and 10,000 for the fronts ?? warning light on the dash warning message on the idrive screen Now when I look at the actual pads although the rears do look pretty low there is still quite a lot left on the fronts (the photos aren't the best sorry).... rear pads front pads Is there a way to reset this or do I have to take it to BMW ?? Cheers Jeff |

TBH the rears look pretty worn to me. Don't know for sure but a red message to me probably means the wear sensor has been triggered. you can try to reset it yourself if you do a search there is a tube video showing you how to do it. If it doesn't reset then you know its new pads and sensors.

I'm aware the rears are low and I was aware that they needed changing soon, however its the fact it went from 3,000+ miles on the idrive to nothing in the space of a day on the rear and from 10,000+ on the front.
The other confusing thing is that if you go into the service section its shown in yellow and says they will require changing soon !!?? tried the reset that is on Youtube with no luck.. |

Im sure the idrive just works on a count down telling you when the car thinks they will need done. Those rear pads look worn enough to hit the sensor. My rear pads were worn down to the sensor but the car reckoned they had 10k left on them. The pads still have a good 4mm when the sensor is worn. Infact ive seen brand new pads with more meat on them than the rear pads i replaced on mine!

I would guess in that case then you have hit the sensor. I wouldn't worry to much about the countdown thing from my experience if you don't drive your average all the time it can become very inaccurate. The best gauge is your eyes.
