Unhappy 328 lease help!

Planning to lease a 2011 328 coupe, 6-spd, premium pkg

1) Vancouver dealers are all saying that they only have x-drives and auto. Should I suck it up and just get the x-drive? It doesn't really snow that much in Vancouver, so having the regular RWD is better because it handles a bit better, lower so more stylish, and costs less in both price and gas.

2) At $49,500 MSRP, what should I be targeting in terms of discount? And which dealer? Lease will be 36 or 39 mos, 20k/yr. I was quoted by a dealer for 3.9% which I thought was high. Does anyone know if BMW is about to have incentives in the next 2-3 months?

3) How long should i expect the car to come in if ordered this month? One dealer said 3 months and another said 2 months. The dealer that quoted 3 months, is pushing that I get the x-drive, because he has a client that has been waiting 6 months for a RWD.

4) Should I even consider the 2010 version if it's cheaper?

5) How much of an issue has the 35i engine been in Vancouver? Most of the complaints are from Americans. If the deal is good enough I could opt for 35i if it's not an issue in Vancouver

Thanks guys in advance

1) You do not need X-Drive in Vancouver. To be honest, with a good set of snows, you don't even need it in Toronto. X-Drive on a coupe looks particularly weak given the higher ride height.

2) 5% off is always a nice starting point.

3) It should be a 2 - 3 months wait. 6 months seems unusually long.

4) Depends if you prefer the face lift or not. They both drive the same.

5) I've yet to hear of someone (I know personally) experience a HPFP failure. If you can, go with the 335i, it's well worth the premium.

If you want manual, then you will be unhappy with auto.
You want RWD. Xdrive is heavier and if you plan on tracking the car, you would have more fun with a RWD.
3.9 isn't that bad.
Shop around to find the car you want. Call dealers from other cities.

you should get a minimum 5% off, if not more.

3.9% is not bad for BMW.

If i was you i'd not get the 328, unless you haven't driven the 335, otherwise you will regret it a lot. I drove the 328 only as a loaner when my car was at the dealership, and it sucks compared to the 335 in terms of fun.

as for the fuel pump failures, i had one happen to me, and you know what? for the money you spend the car is still worth it, even with fuel pump problems.

Sorry I don't want to bash what you have posted...

But to the OP, please don't get a 335... I had one as a loaner and it sucked royally... I was so happy to get back in my Ferrari Enzo. A world of difference.

BTW a 328 is a great car. Buy within the budget you have set yourself.

Does the XI handle that much differently than RWD though?

When I test drove one, I could still take a near-90 degree curve at 75kph no problem.

you do NOT need XI in vancouver at all. unless you only use your car in snow days and live in SFU zone.

Handling is different in the sense that the xi will be more planted in fast curves... So it's better, but it's also less fun.

Vwancouver Dealers

Who is the best dealer to deal with with when leasing? Who on average gives a little bit more? Or do you think it's just dependent on which sales guy you get?

Right now, based on who has been the most helpful:

1. Parkshore
2. BMW Store
3. Autowest
4. Brian Jessel

Any advice?

Don't expect to find a new MT car on the lot. Dealers only order autos for their inventory.

Orders from the factory take around 3 months. 6 months sounds out of line unless its has custom/individual options or is a limited edition model with a wait list. I think he just wants you to buy something off the lot rather than order from the factory.

There were some changes between 2010 and 2011 on the coupe. LED headlights and tail lights, slightly different styling and option packages. If you can get a good deal on a new 2010 you should go for it. A good deal is 7-10% off MSRP.

3.9% is not bad. You can put down multiple security deposits (MSD) when you are leasing to reduce the interest rate. Every month of payment you put down as a security deposit reduces the rate by 0.1%. You can go up to 9 MSD and drop it to 3.0%. You get your MSD's back at the end of the lease.

As for the dealer, I don't think one is significantly better than another. What is more important is the right sales person and, for me, proximity. All dealers have poor SA's so talk to a few different ones. Dealers sometimes prioritize loaners for people that purchased from that dealership.

How does the MSD work? This seems interesting that the extra payments lower the interest, but you get the money back.

Is there a minimum amount of MSD that they require?

MSD's work exactly the way you think they work. You put down extra cash up front and in return they lower the interest rate.

They take your monthly payment (including tax) and round up to the nearest $50. You can put down from one to nine times that amount. For each month they drop the lease interest rate by 0.1%. You get it all back at the end of the lease.

BMW Canada used to offer a loyalty discount where if you re-leased or re-financed another vehicle, they would give you an additional 0.5% interest rate discount. That disappeared a year or two ago.

DONOT go autowest, their sales sucks. other 3 are all good.
for best price, spend $30 on carcostcanada, bring the sheet, add $1000~2000 on top of invoice and start from there.
good luck .
