Hey guys ,Im new here .I just bought an ,02 E46. I was told it is cam chain driven not belt driven? Is that that correct? Is there a scheduled maintenance for the chain and tensioners?


Also,does anyone have a link to an engine schematic?

Its a unique system (chain driven). Search for Vanos and you will find lots of info. Its an amazing piece of engineering, and expensive if it fails.

Bottom line, no maintenance required, just change your oil more than BMW reccommends.

The engine does require valve adjustments. I attached the maintenance schedule for your info.

quick question. how many miles did your e46 have and how much did you pay? im thinking about a e46 too

Sure,it is in condition pristine but it does have 101,xxx mi on it-Bought it in Austin TX from a high-end dealer and paid $15,300 for it--Thanks for your help on my questions CB
