Good Virbrations

Well...not so good, even if you're a Beach Boys fan.

I was on the road yesterday when I noticed a low-pitched buzzing or humming coming from the rear passenger side of my 2007 328i sedan. I stopped the car, leaving the engine running, opened the right rear door and found that the buzzing was coming from the back of the front passenger seat. I felt the back of the seat and it was vibrating!

I reached under the seat to make sure nothing was jammed in there causing some electrical problem and found nothing. When I touched a hanging wire under the seat, the buzzing and vibrations stopped. I'm concerned that the fault could eventually burn out a motor or cause a fire.

My guess is that there is a short or loose connection within the seat involving the lumbar support motor. Don't know why that would cause buzzing and vibrations, but there it was. Anybody else experience this? Any suggestions?

The car is under warranty, so I won't be out of pocket on this, but I'd like to be prepared to discuss this intelligently with the SA before I bring it in.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I did not know the newer e90 comes with massage/vibrating seat for your passenger's back.

Keep us posted on what the dealer finds is the problem.

You put a quarter in the slot and it vibrates!

if you can duplicate it, we'd take care of it. If we can't make it work again, or there's not some crazy fault stored for "lumber run on" or "motor short to ground" (we get crazy shit like that!) then we'd do nothing

Oh. I didn't know that. Thanks for your idea. I'll mention that to my SA.

Thanks for your reply, Matt. I hope my SA or tech can duplicate the problem or find a code for it. Have you ever had a similar problem in your shop?
