HPFP failure

just thought id let you know that my car has joined the other uk cars that have required a new fuel pump.

the car started to stutter under load on the motorway yesterday and the yellow partially filled engine management light came on, and idrive advised reduced power but okay to carry on. got home okay and thought ill take it to sytner later in the week.

tried starting it later in the day and just cranked but wouldnt fire up. got in touch with bmw assist, who sent a third party chap who was completely useless. "i dont do bms, mercs only me, dont have the tools" anyhow the car started up when he was there, but very rough idle 500- 1500, very jerky to drive. he said he didnt have a code reader and couldnt look into it any further. i called assist back and they said all the bmw mobile techs had finished their shifts and to take it into dealer in the morning. they did offer recovery truck, but ive got my own reservations about them. bmw assist did arrange a car from avis to meet me at work later on today

anyhow this morning car started after a very long cranking (only one press), and we juddered over to sytner cautiously (about 2 miles). credit where its due, even though they werent expecting me, they dealt with me in the next 15mins, gave me a lift to work - about 10miles, they've had a look at the car and called me back to say its the fuel pump and they are going to replace it.

ill keep you updated, yatin

Great to read so far your experience with them is good.

How many miles on your car? and how old?

Ever had any injecor or coil pack issues before?

its a 58, late 2008 build (after the factory holiday, has the newer idrive). had 5 miles on the clock when i got it, about 36k now. only has shell fuel.

it has had the odd episode of a shortlived engine management light (went after turn off/on) no code stored or fault found afterwards.

it has had coil packs changed twice (one at a time only). no injector replacement.

spark plugs were done at last service. software was updated couple of services ago (its the version that reads bmw online news to you)

no other engine issues that i can remember.

It says he drives an e92 N54 in his profile - so yes - its a 335i

Having your HPFP replaced is a necessary right of passage for all 335i owners.

So a few issues but not compared to some 335i owners.

Least its the usually stuff eh mate. It will get sorted.

You might want to talk them into changing the other coil packs which have not been changed to the newer updated ones also.

cheers,

no worries...i was in dumb mode when I saw N54...though that n54 would cover all 3 series engines....

I just hope my fuel pump is ok....

got car back this morning. seems in good shape, looking forward to a good drive at the weekend. no new dents or scratches.

not sure if they did a software update, or if ive just found something new. it seems that with bmw online, you can look at pictures of current location, or destination via google maps - including street view! hadnt noticed that before
