Injen DCI question

I should have said questions....

1. With mine (don't know if this is the same for everyone), one of the holes where the air comes in under the hood is open. When I was doing the install, I think I remember the instructions showing the holes different..and wondering why mine wasn't like this. But I went ahead with everything.

So I'm wondering if anyone else has done something to close this hole? Or if you even know what I'm talking about. And if I was really stupid with this, please let me know as I'm sure you will.

2. The other day I was at a local shop and we opened the hood and when this guy saw the intakes was like "Oh, that's bad...you're only getting hot air with this setup."

So what about this? Is there any truth to what this guy says?

3. I have JB3 on map 5 and I can tell a difference in power but not what I think I should be feeling from what I've read. You think this could be the problem?

OK...well I feel a little better so far. "Isolation around filters" <<someone said we need that?

That is one clean engine bay. Have you noticed it getting more dirty having this setup? Maybe because of that hole there?

Many will debate that there is not an issue with hot air, but there really is. In regular stop and go traffic there will be a tremendous amount of heat in the engine compartment even with the turbos on the other side of the engine. The filters will be pulling that hot air in without proper shielding.

There is also an issue of "fan wash" that can alter the air entering the filters.

With that said, the Injen has better filter placement (away from most of the heat) then some of the cheaper setups that have the cone filters sitting right next to the intake manifold.

Cool.

Post a pic of the "hole" if you get a chance.

We have some work in Ramstein, but I never get up there.....only the office in Stuttgart.

Oh and the hole I'm referring to is the factory hole for the factory air box where the air enters....the Injen DCI (look at above pic) only covers one of the holes (driver's side)....I don't know why they didn't design that piece to cover both?

prolly costs more to do both.

I like the Injen inlet tubes and filter placment and might buy one and design a heat shield for it. Been taking some measurements.

In a former life, I owned this company. www.ecisbmw.com

Germany is pretty cool, but I'm not sure I could live there full time.
