Proof of cool cops
So I'm on my way to work this morning about 5 miles from my house and I get behind an old woman doing about 25 in a 45. Being a VERY rural area there was only one place to pass. When the time came I passed her and did not pay attention to the speed I was now going. 30 seconds later I came over a small hill and there was a state trooper coming the opposite way. I looked down and was doing 70 in a 45!!!
I see the cop slam on his breaks and pull a u-turn in the road. I knew I was busted and immediately pulled over. By the time he got back to me I was already sitting on the side of the road waiting for him. He got out and did the usual license and registration then went back to his car. I was thinking the worst when he came back to my car. He asked me if I knew how fast I was going (I was honest with him) and if I knew the speed limit (Again, I told him I knew what it was.) He told me to hang on and he went back to his car for another few minutes. When he came back he informed me that he was giving me a written warning and that I should know better than to drive that fast. He then tells me "Besides, you don't want to wreck such a nice car." Here's the best part; he turns to walk away and stops and puts his head back though my passenger window. He says "Do you know WHY I didn't give you a ticket? Because you didn't insult my intelligence." With that he turned and walked back to his car. Damn, I wish more cops were cool like that. Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that there are a few of them out there. Thank you Mr. Cop. :rocks: |

Damn, one day on the way to work I was flying along at like 95 on a pretty empty road. As as about to pass a cluster of cars and semi's to the right of me I notice a CHP in the midst of the pack. In my mirror I saw him start to change lanes, so I just pulled right over into the emergency lane on the left. He didnt even have to turn on his lights
I tried to joke with him but the fucker never even cracked a grin. I didnt mind the ticket, but was kinda pissed as his poor attitude. Its not like Im some gang member he was pulling over.

Agree - there's a mix out there. I used to admit my mistake everytime, but I don't think it matters. Now, I never admit to wrong-doing, in case I decide to plead not guilty at court.

I doubt he clocked you if you were going the other way. You wouldn't have gotten a ticket anyway. But yeah people make cops out to be idiots but a lot of them are cool and they are doing their job. (Which is to keep you safe)

The fact that you were local and didn't give him attitude probably went a long way in not getting you a ticket. My friend has a Vette and gets pulled over frequently, acts the same way you did and gets off with warnings too.

There are good cops
I was going 50 in a 30 zone few weeks ago after drinking at a bar, got pull over by a local cop....I thought I was gonna get arrested for speeding & drinking/driving, but the cop was very friendly and just gave me a warning.
He said this could be a $300+ ticket and told me to drive home safely

Our city cops where I live in Florida don't care about anything unless they set up one of their bimonthly speed traps. They let me off with a warning for 6+ month tag violation. Unfortunately I couldn't get out of a ticket from the highway patrol for 87 in a 70. She was a b*tch to me. |

I've met plenty of cool cops.
I was driving along driving fast (wasn't paying attnetion, talking to passenger) when I was pulled over. He said I was doing 95 or so in a 60. License and registration shown, he goes back to his car. I'm telling my passenger I hope I don't get reckless driving or something, because 35 over is pretty severe. Next thing you know he comes back and tells me to slow it down, and lets me go! Words cannot explain the shock I was in. |

For those in the bay area, I'm driving on 92 east, after 880 and before it becomes Foothill, zipping along at ~50 to make it through a light. Just after the intersection I a motorcycle cop on the right in some driveway. I looked right at him, he's looking right at me and I give this huge wincing face like, OH SH*T! He just points his finger at me, tilts his head, gives a half head shake of disapproval and watches me go by... I lightly keep riding the brakes so that he sees them brightly.
Whoa! THAT was close. I think becasue we had that non-verbal communication and I certainly acknowledged in my wince tht I was wrong, he knew it was enough for me to slow it down. To the point earlier, that made a bigger impression on me than some ticket. Mutual respect goes a long way in life. Of course, I've been given a ticket for 65mph on the freeway before, so maybe its karma evening out? |

admittedly i live in another country to all you guys, but that is exactly how i got a ticket... for 110 in an 80 zone... the cop was coming the oposite way to me, and he still knew exactly how fast i was going i just didn't admit to it, and acted like a ditz, so he let me off the fine for mobile phone, no p plates (provisional driver), and he went easy on me for the speeding, he only gave me a fine for 15 km's over the limit i think, if you don't admit to it, but are still nice to them, they will be nice in return
