DCI for 35 dollars
got some typical cone filters 30bucks for 2
some home depot couplers 2bucks and 2 clamps .50 cents total of 35bucks and change. my analysis of it all. its the same as the next guy who paid 99-130 bucks for the BMS. performance? beats me. but it sounds cool.

They even LOOK better. When looking for cones, what size is the piping where it connects??

To the OP, I'd be a bit worried about those FleaBay filters if I were you...there's a Reason why they are that cheap. Back in Highschool my buddy put one of those AutoZone(ish) filters on his Grand Prix just cause he knew it would sound cool, but it actually barely filtered anything and allowed so much debris into his engine over a few months that his motor was almost killed and he ended up paying over a Grand in repairs just because of that cone...better to be safe than sorry..Especially on such nice, expensive cars as ours. ~Chris~ |

hi guys,
As an ME in the semi business i do alot of temp. measurement. so as a result i have 3 thermocouples put in the engine.. i have 2 30awg taped using capton tape to my cones. and for ambient in between the cones im using a 12awg T/C.. im going to log this on freeway and traffic when im driving home. -things ill be looking for... are these crap filters (ill know by using a CFM monitor) -what temp is the air thats being sucked in (T/C) -what temp is constant on the cones. (T/C) ill have reports back in the near week if all goes well ill compile all the parts you would need and sell them to you guys on the forum.

These appear to be Spectre filters. They are cheap and plentiful at AutoZone and the like. Many people use them. I have no experience with them: http://www.spectreperformance.com/#HOME |

Its cool that you have the knowledge to be able to determine if they are doing the job. Nice, I'm looking forward to hearing the results, even though I have an EAS filter. |

This is the scary part.
People should also worry about the filtration of the filters instead of just flow. I'm not saying that these filters are bad (because I don't know what brand they are) but I just hope the OP figured this out before installing it.

I dont know which filters those are...
The only thing I can say, is SOME (not all) cheap Filters tend not to filter as well. (proven). Some only have 2 layers, some have 4 layers, and only filter up to certain microns. Last I looked into it APEXI and K & N Both filter out the most and have the best performance at the sametime. Something like a Greddy FOAM filter was known to have great performance, but horrible filtration and degrade and flake overtime. I'm not hating on trying to save money as best we can, but we also have to think about safety of the engine... Again, I dont know specifics on these filters... but its something to think about. No disrespect, props for looking out of the norm, but need to keep in mind, they are filtering the air going into your turbo's and you dont drive a cheap car. Doesn't mean we need to pay a BMW tax, but need to be smart shoppers. |

What filters does BMS use?
FWIW, one of my friends had a spectre filter on a 2001 chrysler sebring (one with the mitsu v6) and destroyed his engine in about 2 years. The thing refuses to run properly. I'm not saying i blame the filter, but other than that the car was stock. Granted we are talking about a chrysler product...

Props for doing it yourself OP, but honestly just go to autozone and look for a K&N cone filter with the same dimensions or order better cone filter online. Take them off asap, for your engines sake. I was about to do the exact same thing you did, but i did my research and honestly BMS put together a really awesome DCI for a cheap price! I just recieved my third set from them today
