My F10 and ipod/USB interface question
Got my new F10 last night! This is a September build (week 35) with the C6V combo box.
I stuck a flash drive loaded with music into the USB port. The car doesn't seem to see it - if I cycle through "mode" all I get is radio or CD. There's no menu option for USB (or iPod). I haven't tried an ipod yet (don't have one). Can't find anything in the owner's manual. Anyone? What am I missing here? Thanks, Michael

Yeah, that's where I stuck it. But nothing shows in the menu, the car doesn't seem to "see" it.

Ive had the same problem. I gave up in the end. The car seemed to pick up the USB stick sometimes and not others. I tried different sticks, different music, i.e. lower conversion rates, none drm music on the stick.. nothing seemed to make a difference. I now just used my iphone and it works each and every time.

Update! I fiddled with it at lunch. The owner's manual (from BMW web site) says that it may take a while to load data from external device, so I gave it another look. I found the problem - it's not the interface, it's the Eye-yi-yi-drive. Here's what I had to do:
From main menu, select CD/Multimedia. This immediately started playing my CD and took me to the CD menu. Hit the back button, and this menu shows external devices, CD, tone, etc. Select external devices and the USB device then shows up. Select it and proceed through the menus to select songs, search, etc. I made a short cut to the external USB device selection so that I can now get to it directly (and it resumes play). Sound quality is poorer than the CD (which is not unexpected due to compression) but many people may not notice. And for the convenience, it may not matter to me either, long-term. I'm too cheap to get the CD changer. Thanks all for the help - maybe this can help someone else later down the line.

If your car was built before September you could try the software update
Looks like there is an update available for pre September build cars. http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...re_update.html http://www.bmw.com/_common/shared/ow...PD01000_EN.pdf Only vehicles from selected European markets will be supported in the case of vehicles with production dates 03/2010 – 08/2010. The software update is not required for vehicles with production dates later than 09/2010. Assume there is an update for US cars too ? Maybe on the BMW USA site? Cheers Paul |
