Real world MPG on a 335i, 330d Touring Auto?
If driven sensibly 90% of the time on a full tank, what mpg can be expected on a cruise, urban mix etc.?
Autotrader state the 335i can do 40mpg on a cruise and mixed at 30mpg and the 330d i think a mix of almost 40mpg. Sounds a bit optimistic. I currently have a R32 Golf 3.2 V6. on a cruise on motorway it can do 30-35 mpg on average most of the time it is around town, urban areas and average 24-27mpg. Looking for something which is a bit more economical and more space. Although I do prefer the package of the e61 5 series touring, but thought worth checking out the e91 touring with better mpg, which i assume due to the weight and size. |

The best I ever saw on a return trip from Hexham to Kent was 35 MPG in my 335i DCT, average daily was 29 mpg.
I once owned a MK5 R32 and believe me the 335i is another league |

335i
On the motorway at a constant 80 I can manage around 29/30 MPG With normal spirited driving I manage 25 mpg overall If you are after economy then the 335i isn't a clever choice Regards vegnomeat |

My 330d (LCI 245) auto (Saloon) returns 45-50mpg on a steady m'way cruise (75) Averages 45 overall as most of my driving is motorway & fast A roads. About 550 miles/tank, and has done 600. There would be a neglegible increase for a touring. Maybe -1 mpg.

thanks,
well i can write off that idea i thought most things would be more economical than the R32 LOL 330d touring on paper (again on paper) looks impressive but think i prefer the 535d for space and more toys as standard |

Yep, 330d, 45-50 on the Mway.
Around town, with an avergage speed of 15mph, I get about 32mpg. Not bad.

I wouldnt TBH, our 118D which is an efficient dynamics model isnt startling on fuel, it does 40mpg (just) in town and rises if you drive it gently on a run
I thought itwould be leagues ahead of our 335d, it isnt sadly R32 Golfs are dire on fuel, mine (a mk4) never managed more than 28mpg on the motorway and sub 20mpg in town |

My pre-LCI 2006 (non efficiency model) gets 37mpg +/-2mpg average all yr around.
On a long motorway run with some good cruising (not stop start accelerating) I get 42mpg. Around town (most of my driving these days) i get 30mpg unless I floor it everywhere! Simply put it is cheaper on fuel than our 1.6 petrol family hatch. |

At the end of the day it all comes down to how you drive, in any car if your being very carfull on gear selection etc you will end up getting more mpg.
I think the 335 aint bad really considering the power it has, compare it with the e46 m3 and it's much more efficient with not much power difference [it's quicker with a remap]. If you are driving a ton of miles per year, you will be better off with 2 cars 1 litre fuel saver then the 335 or m3 as weekend car lol |

I now have a 535d. Undeniably more space and may be toys but you never see 40 mpg. I average 27 on a commute and may be 38 on the motorway if sticking at the speed limit.

Can't argue with a 5 series if it's space required. But the 335 is pure fun. I have an Alp B3 based on this engine and it's awesome, but it's also economical for petrol derivate, 27 town and 31 -34 fast or moderate motorway. I think horses for courses, if you need oodles of space then the 5 no argument. Why not test drive a few and see what suits.

But the OP has a petrol R32.
So he likes decent petrol engines, if you want economy then no one buys performance petrol engines. If you want a cracking engine and great drive its the 335i all day, if you just want mechanical torque and good mpg but no soul then go with the soot chucker. 335i has to be a choice from the heart not the head. 335i tourer is one of the best cars on the road, but i'm biased yahoo - 27? mines averaging 18 at the mo... |
