HKS BOV Springs
Hey guys,
I've done a lot of searching and can't find any details on anyone changing the springs in their BOV. They sell different springs for just about every BOV for different pressures, but I haven't seen anyone with an N54 doing it. I have seen that with the HKS SSQV BOV on my car, it is only noticeable if I hit about 4500 RPMs or higher. My question is, has anyone changed the springs on their BOV? I am just wondering if it is possible to get a spring that releases at a lower PSI. Negative comments not needed. TIA.

Yea I have a gauge, I'm getting plenty of boost. I mean it's noticeable enough, but only if I get on it a little bit.
I know HKS makes 3 different springs- red (12-18 psi), blue (7-14 psi) and yellow (6-12 psi). All three could technically work for our car, but red is a little big. The rate is simply what pressure is needed to vent, not how much it can hold. I'm just curious as to what springs most people are using.

Thanks man, I have to check what mine has. I'm out of town for work right now but I'm guessing it also has a red.
Anyone using yellow or blue, or the equivalent with a different BOV?

I did not know that there is a spring in the HKS bov? I thought they were piston types with no springs or diaphram (Greddy's horrible design).

So, Im going to jack this thread a little bit, I read the box the SSQV came in, and it says thats not a spring load design. I noticed as well, just revving it up in neutral, that it wont open till like 4k. So i looked at the good ole boost gauge that the procede makes, and it says im not making boost til 4k, and even then its not more than 5psi. Driving around/under load, its good, ill make boost depending on how much pedal I give it. Also, when WOT and boost gets up to like 15-16 psi, it sounds like it opens then closes and opens again. Maybe what im hearing is that it starts to open, opens all the way, and then i hear it again when its partialy closed? Any one else have any experiance with this?
