More interesting tyre info...
Guys,
As many of you know I have been messing about with wheels and tyres all year and now find myself back on the OEM 189's with MO marked Continental SC3's in stock sizes fitted. To give the lie to the rumour that runflats are much heavier than conventional tyres, please see below! The biggest differentiator is the wheels themselves, they are very, very heavy.... (previous post cut and pasted for reference) Please see updated weight info for the latest and greatest Contis. Same weighing device and technical method as before. Everytime I take the stock wheel and tyre off I'm shocked at how heavy they are, about the same as Saturn I think.... Swapped over from my OE 18 inch 189's with Flintstone tyres to 19 inch Alufelgen SF - 71's with 235/35 & 265/30 Vred Ultrac Sessanta kitten soft tyres. In the interest of science I weighed both sets of wheels to see how they compared. What a surprise I had to find that the original front wheel and tyre is the same weight as the huge Alufelgen rear wheel and huge tyre !! Also surprising that there was only 1lb between the BMW front and rear wheels too. BMW 8j Front 189 - 225/40 - 51lbs - Granite's BMW 8j Front 189 - 225/40 - 50lbs - Conti SC3 MO Alufelgen 8.5j Front - 235/35 - 44lbs - Vred's Alufelgen 8.5j Front - 235/35 - 42lbs (Conti 5P) BMW Rear 8.5j 189 - 255/35 - 52lbs - Granite's BMW Rear 8.5j 189 - 255/35 - 52lbs - Conti SC3 MO (same as Flintstones!!) Alufelgen Rear 9.5j - 265/30 - 51lbs - Vreds Alufelgen Rear 9.5j - 265/30 - 46lbs (Conti 5P) Hope thats me done with this particular topic. Yves |

at flintstone tyres.
But very interesting, and it seems that the Conti 5P is pretty light.

As you rightly said before, the 255 CSC3 is a lot wider rubber than the 255 flintstone, so your not quite comparing like with like.
But still interesting figures. |
